How do I keep calm, relax and find peace in a chaotic, loud and hectic environment?
One way for me to answer this question is to think of an environment that I happen to be in that perfectly fits the adjectives above: chaotic, loud and hectic.
First, it was my android phone. What about it?
It started developing some faults: my charging port was not working and then next was my phone’s screen,
before I knew it, the touch pad of my phone broke. I spent so much money for the maintenance of my phone. But after all I did, I saw that the phone did not get any better rather it became worse. It was really hectic to be spending resources yet no improvement.
As if that was not enough the voice in my head to get a new phone or do something about the phone became so loud that I just wanted to shut in; I became really anxious about getting a new phone.
All I ever wanted was to keep calm, relax and find peace in a chaotic, loud and hectic social environment. So, how did I achieve the relaxedness, and encourage calm and peacefulness? Read on.
• I had to tame and deal with the pressure to be on social media:
Oh yeah! I realized that my motive for getting a new phone or maintaining my phone, not minding the source of income was in other to maintain my social media profile, keep up with the current happenings, view people’s status and also drop comments and, chat for as long as possible.
I observed that I was spent so much of my time (chatting),
so much of my resources (in buying data) and most unfortunately, my mental health was at risk. So, I told myself “you are not going to cut down on anything that is not bring value to your life”. But then, even though I would do anything to find peace, by avoiding social media, I became bored so I found an activity to replace or substitute social media, which brings me to my next point.
• Reading a meaningful book:
This is another way, I relax and find peace. It is another way of interacting with people; having to know the writer’s thoughts. Currently, I am reading
a book titled: “The Secret To True Happiness” by Joyce Meyer- One of the number 1 best-selling New York Authors.
Following would be a value that social media did not give me.
• Developing my writing skills by writing:
Reading helps improve writing. It is almost impossible for me to pick up a book and go through it without having an inspiration to jot down.
I could develop notes, write articles, and compose poems, just by picking up a book to read.
And yeah, Hive has also been a place of peace for me, because, it encourages me to do what I love doing without so much noise and if I do well, I receive incentives which increases the dopamine in my brain.
• Lastly, Meditation:
There are times when your brain gets used to what you use to do before and you can no longer derive the satisfaction from what you have been doing. This is called addiction in psychology. When reading and writing fails, my last option is usually to pray and most importantly, Philippians chapter 4 verse 6 happens to be my daily meditation and confession each time I am in a chaotic, loud and hectic environment.
So, what makes my day (Sunday or not ) beautiful and worth enjoying is when I do the things I love and enjoy doing the most which are: talking to my creator, connecting with people through reading and expressing my thoughts via writing.

I so understand this! I find myself spending so much time on social media and I wonder where the hours went sometimes. I got a bunch of new books to read as gifts that I am excited about, so I want to take more time away from the screens and get more reading time!

I really want to thank you for reading through, I'm glad I have someone who can relate. I know that joyous feeling that comes with receiving gifts- such as books, and your decision to have more reading time is very commendable!
