A Lord of the Rings inspired backyard wedding celebration

Six years ago, I had the honour of photographing my very first wedding - my brothers wedding. It was the most intimate backyard celebration, with every detail lovingly planned out and crafted to reflect the couples shared love and passion of the epic world of The Lord of the Rings movies. Today I am excited to share these special memories of the Tolkien-inspired wedding day.

Every single detail of the wedding was crafted from the books and movies. The tables were creatively named after locations in the Lord of the Rings universe.

The couple, being the furthest from traditional, had the most untraditional guest book, something more fun and interactive: Jenga! Every guest signed a Jenga block, leaving a small message for the couple to enjoy every time they had a games night together.

This yellow rose was there as a small reminder and memory of the loved ones who could not attend the wedding, those loved people who are no longer with us.

Each of the guests name cards were created with pages from the Lord of the Rings books themselves. The boys got a green ribbon on their napkins and the girls were given lace.

And the cake... oh my, what a cake... A rustic, woodland inspired masterpiece, shaped like a tree stump that is covered in flowers, mushrooms and a birdie on top. It may have been a truly beautiful cake but I am not exaggerating when I say that every bite was absolute perfection.

Tasty and gorgeous!

The brides dress was hung on this unique "Bride" Hanger.

And of course a baby breath flower crown for the flower girl!

The tables were decorated with old books in the table centres along with recycled glass jars adorned with white candles. Onto of each stack of books was a recycled jar filled with a loose bouquet of white roses and baby's breath. The table displays created a warm, romantic atmosphere... earthy, elegant and buttery charming.

The kiddies attending the party were given a tub of play dough, crayons and a colouring pad and a bottle of bubbles! The best thank you gift.

πŸ’ The brides rings, a simple silver band adorned with sparkly green stones stood out beautifully next to the thick black band that the groom chose.

The bride looked stunning in a soft sage green dress paired with velvet brown boots that perfectly matched the rustic theme and paired lovely with the bridesmaids darker green dress, each girl wearing an infinity dress.

She also wore this lovingly crafted pin fitted with all the something new and something blue. It was pinned inside the hem of her dress, something special for only her.

And of course no Lord of the Rings wedding would ever be complete without a feast. The menu was fit for any Hobbit celebration: dinner, supper and pudding - an abundant, delicious spread that would make Bilbo Baggins proud. The food was a highlight to the day for sure, hot homemade soup made by the brides aunt filled our bellies with hearty goodness on the chilly winter afternoon. And the goodness did not stop there, the spit braai was paired with abundant sides that filled every guests stomach.

After the "I do's" each guest was given a paper cone made out of the Lord of the Rings books filled with colourful flower petals as confetti.

In a delightful twist, a little ladybug decided to join the festivities, resting on the centrepiece on my table.

The wedding was more than just an event - it was an experience, filled with love, laughter and many thoughtful details. I loved capturing this special day and I hope that these photos bring you into the heart of the day where love and the magic of the Lord of the Rings intertwined to create a wedding like no other.

Enjoy these glimpses into one of the most fun, meaningful and intimate weddings I had the pleasure of attending.
