Hi everyone 😍 , I hope you all are fine and doing great. Today I clicked the picture of a heron whose official name is cattle egret.
Here are some facts about them.🦩
During the breeding season, it is a white bird with buff plumes. It nests in colonies, usually near bodies of water, and frequently alongside other wading birds. The nest is a platform made of sticks that is placed in trees or shrubs.
Cattle egrets use drier and more open habitats than other heron species. Seasonally inundated grasslands, pastures, farmlands, wetlands, and rice paddies are among their feeding habitats.
They frequently accompany cattle or other large mammals, catching insect and small vertebrate prey that these animals disturb. Some populations migrate, while others disperse after breeding.
Although the adult cattle egret has few predators, birds or mammals may raid its nests, and chicks may die from starvation, calcium deficiency, or disturbance from other large birds. This species has a special relationship with cattle that extends to other large grazing mammals; wider human farming is thought to be a major cause of their unexpectedly expanded range. The cattle egret eats ticks and flies that have been removed from cattle. Although this benefits both species, it has been linked to the spread of tick-borne animal diseases.
