City Lights from the Rooftop | Photographing New Year's Celebration

Happy New Year, photography lovers! I hope you celebrated nicely and are planning on making even more excellent photographs in 2024! I personally have moved away from making new resolutions at this time of year as it doesn't seem like a smart thing to start anew in the dead of winter (no wonder most fail quickly).

This is a time for rest and relaxation, for allowing slow and peaceful moments to take place. Of course, it doesn't mean sitting idly by and waiting for spring. Conserving energy, reading good books, finishing up the projects are all good ways to make use of time.

We "celebrated" the new year at a friend's house downtown, with a delicious plant-based menu our host created by herself. Vegan mimosa, mushrooms in a white sauce, plant-based burgers and delicacies, raw chocolate-cherry cake, fresh strawberry juice and much more. I don't even have to say that it was all delicious. We exchanged book presents and a lovely evening.

As the midnight approached we climbed on the roof - their building is tall and offers incredible view of the city panorama. We prepared tripods to try and get some decent images of the fireworks. And as the clock hit 12 it started, the Belgrade waterfront, newly built modern apartment district lit up and the sky exploded with vibrant, shiny lights. The whole area was illuminated and drowning in noise. It lasted for maybe 7 or 8 minutes and then everything settled back into silence. Another year has passed.

Next few days the holiday spirit was still prevalent in the city. Streets are crowded with people, cafes are full. Wonderful sunset played the role in raising the magical atmosphere to the max. Of course, it's especially beautiful from the Kalemegdan fortress and that's were most people head towards. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into Belgrade's holiday atmosphere. :) Photos taken with Fuji X-Pro2 + 35mm F/2 lens.

New year resolutions shouldn't be a must every year, I believe life should be taken bit by bit. That doesn't mean one shouldn't have goals to achieve. Change should come with babysteps except if procrastinating is playing strong then one can result strong approaches like the resolution. I like your plan for the year.

Happy new year to you and your loved ones! Your view was amazing! Beautiful images you caught in motion. I love them all! Though am curious about the shoe on the line. What's the story? How did it get there?. Thank you for sharing these beautiful images with us.

Thank you very much! Happy New Year to you! :) I agree, it's more important to create the processes that lead to consistent action over time instead of focusing on particular goals.

I was wondering the same thing about the shoes, no idea why they ended up there. :)

The shoes tend to be drug dealers alerting potential buyers that they are in the area... Sometimes it can just be kids either... They'd be pretty easy to get up there. Tie laces together and just launch them up at electricity cable...

Great photos here by the way @alcibiades. You definitely have a good eye for a photo.

😅Imagine that. I remember seeing shoes on electric lines when I was little back then, I always thought they were spoilt shoes that no one needed anymore. It good to know now. Thank you for this. Happy new year to you and your lovely family. My regards 😊

Now you know 😁

Wow I would never thought that could be the reason they are up there. 😮 It's a very busy area, just outside one of the main squares.

I am glad you enjoy the photos! :)

It might not be 100% the reason here, but it's definitely why it's done in certain neighbourhoods.

With such an unpredictable future and expectations for the upcoming days, I gave up setting up my goals at the beginning of each year. I wasn't a big fan of it anyway.

Oh, and well done with the shots again! Some of these look like one of the famous backgrounds or framed pictures people use around this time of the year!

Yes, it's what we do every day that counts, taking it day by day. Glad you thought these would look good framed in some apartment. :) I still haven't started marketing my photos for that purpose, even though I probably should have.

You should! I've seen quite a lot of pictures taken by you with potential in that direction 😊

You couldn't have better spot during fireworks 👌🏻

Indeed, I was lucky to be there. :)

There is a lot of movement in the street, even Sullivan went for a walk 😅, around here there are also many people enjoying the days off, I think it will be like this until after Reyes day, when everything will be back to normal.

Yes, everyone including the cartoon characters was out. 😅 It gets crazy around holidays.

What bright, juicy, eventful photos! The fireworks are incomparable!

Glad you like them!

I just love how clear these shots are though
All in all looks like a wonderful new years celebration

Thank you, I am happy that you like them! :)

Your photos are amazing even very expressive, and while I have the chance I wish you a Happy New Year.

Thank you and glad you liked it! Happy New Year to you! :)

You're welcome😉

Wow, and I've only been working on my blog every day for the past god-knows-how-many years.

you are so special

everyone else is not working on his blog since steem, cuz they dont have bling bling cool photos of foreign people
(have you asked them to make money off their pictures?)

Yes, I have seen your blogs and how much you "work" for it and are getting payed for nothing. Do your thing. Got hurt because someone asked you why are you cashing out and now you are going around broadcasting it? You know there are thousands of authors who choose to do so, don't skip anyone. Big surprise, people are using the resources they earned in a way they see fit. Stop trying to be anyone's counselor and mind your own business.

you do not even understand my blog
but yea, I admit that I will put less and less work into hive

also very funny how you attack me and my work, blog
just because I asked you why you cash out, claim the facts

in fact, still:
you are the milker, not me
cuz I havent even cashed out, so what are you talking?

actually you do not appear to be the brightest

you know that this platform will not succeed, if everyone just cashes out and milks the reward pool?
hive will become more and more centralized and only a few whale oligarchs will come out
also hive price will fall more

you understand incentives?
why should the network reward you for milking it ?

Dude, I don't know where you got everything mixed up. Every platform that authors use to share their work (YouTube, stock photography websites, TikTok, 3Speak...) pays for the most valuable content, it's not charity or anything. It's the algorithms and curators allocating based on quality in a best way they know. And for Hive it's literally its driving force. What use of it if you are not allowed to use the earnings. The platform is not gonna die because of it, otherwise its very nature is flawed. What keeps it going is people sharing valuable content. Use it however you see fit. If you want to grow your stake and cash out when the price is higher or never, do it. If you want to use the money to invest so you can provide more quality content, do it. If you need it to pay the rent, do it. That's how it always was and how it should be, otherwise what are we even doing here.

What you are doing?

Probably turning in cycles and milking the platform to pay rent in a big city instead of using the new tech to become independent

love every inch of the pictures

Thank you!
