Today I’m digging deeper in my archives and getting one of the favorite trip in my life. It was long dream Florence or Firenze in Italian.
We went there with my husband for our honeymoon. It was one of our stops during honeymoon, we also went to Rome, Venice and continued in the States. It was very interesting for me as an architect. I read and heard from my Art history teacher about Florence a lot. I always liked looking at the pictures of these beautiful buildings in the books. I was so happy to finally get there in real life. My husband also enjoyed the trip, he was in charge of planning routes for our walks, he likes maps. The streets there are so narrow, that it’s easier to walk than drive in order to get to all the historical sites. As I share photos we took with our ancient camera, I’ll tell a little bit about the buildings.
The most popular site in Florence is certainly the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Cathedral of Florence. It was built in 1436. The construction lasted 140 years and can now accommodate up to 20,000 people.
Giotto’s Campanile Tower, which is also in Piazza del Duomo, is the bell tower of Florence Cathedral, that’s why they look so much alike.
Known as the “Gates of Paradise” because of its wonderful gilded bronze doors, the Baptistery of St. John is one of the oldest buildings in Florence, it was built between 1059 and 1128 in the Florentine Romanesque style.
Located in the heart of the Old Town, the Piazza del Duomo is the most important square in Florence and the tourists’ number one attraction.
This screen shot was taken from Google Map.
I don’t remember exactly what this place was but I’m pretty sure it was a restaurant, because all my photos that were nex to thos are from the restaurant:-)
Thos time we tried bruschetta for the first time. It was just an appetizer but for me it was unusual to eat such a simple but tasty sandwich, so I took a photo of it. Later we tried to make it at home but it wasn’t as good as original one.
This is a wall where tourists could leave their national bank notes so that others could see.
The photos are a bit dark because it was a rainy day, and I really like how the pavement reflects in the rain.
Here is an interior of that restaurant where we were hiding from rain and getting warm drinking tea.
I’ve never seen so many bottles of wine as a decoration for any restaurant, although I don’t go there that often. I think for Italy it’s pretty usual to have so much wine.
I hope you enjoyed the photos!
