 "20210314_171201.jpg" Lucknow was the City of Nawabs who looked after the culture and administration for the Mughal emperors. It is a beautiful city built on the banks of River Gomti with a huge historical significance. City of Nawabs (Lucknow) Played a very important role in the Indian uprising against the British East India Company.

The British Residency was set up in 1764 after the pact between the nawabs of Lucknow and the Bengalis. General Residents (Representatives of British) was appointed and stationed at the Residency complex.

Residency complex is spread for over 33 acres of land, that is the reason this was known as the city within city. There were multiple houses built in the complex to accommodate the employees.

In the year 1857 Residency was converted into the British Headquarters and during the revolt almost 8000 soldiers were positioned at the residency.

We can still see bullet holes on the walls of the complex.

Residency Lucknow is now a famous tourist destination with beautiful and well maintained gardens. One update for the travellers, they will charge extra fee for photography equipments which is sad as the fee is high.
