We arrived in New Athos, visited a local monastery, went down to the bottom of a wild gorge and saw the natural waterfall of this river.
Now I propose to visit a man-made waterfall. It was built at the end of the 19th century by the monks of this monastery for their needs. The dam blocked the channel of the Psyrtskha River, a reservoir was formed on the upper level. The excess water flowed down beautifully, forming a beautiful waterfall.
In addition, a hydroelectric power station was built. There was a time when it didn't function. But now it has been restored and it supplies the monastery with energy. At least that's what they say.
Now it is a place of pilgrimage for tourists. To do this, a whole network of retail outlets, cafes, exhibitions is deployed next to the waterfall. Actually... I'd take half of it away. The extra fuss clogs up a good place.
But we won't pay much attention to it. Also, we will not pay attention to the rain and cloudy weather. Yes, there is not enough light for a bright photo on such a day. But not every day is sunny here. And still it's always beautiful here. But for my taste... rain even adds charm and mystery. Not every tourist is lucky to see the rain :)
Just imagine the bright sun, sharp shadows... I like softness better.
And then water appears in the frames. Of course, we're standing at the waterfall.
If there is wind, then water can be everywhere... and on the lens too.
And this is part of the hydroelectric power plant that I mentioned.
But let's look up, what's there?
Rain, lake and fog, what could be better. How can it compare with the usual sunny weather...
And here the upper edge of the waterfall is clearly visible, now it is just the border of the upper lake.
The building of the old railway station hangs over the water. There the trains come out of the mountain and go uphill. But about this some other time.
