In october 2020 I have been in Umbria, one of the best region of Italy for history, culture and landscape. It is called 'the heart of Italy'.
Here Gubbio and La Verna.
Gubbio is very ancient (Bronze Age), and it was an great town in pre-Roman times. After Roman conquest, it remains an important city, called Iguvium.
Here, the inside of the cathedral:
And the panorama of the city:
I always feel a great spirituality in these town and places!
Here S. Ubaldo church, on the hill above the city:
The 'Madonna Orante' (Holy Mary praying), worship in Ravenna by S. Ubaldo in 1119.
These huge candles are used durign the traditional 'Race of the candles' (Festa dei ceri).
The race takes place every year on May 15th on the eve of the feast of the city’s patron saint (St. Ubaldo). The statues of St. Ubaldo, St. George and St. Anthony the Abbot are placed on these huge candles and taken on the shoulders, like a race, through the city streets and up to the basilica of S. Ubaldo.
Here San Giovanni church:
The old town:
And the famous Palazzo dei Consoli, a medieval building in Gubbio built in XIV century, now a museum. This square is the most famous of Gubbio.
Here the mountains above Gubbio... You know I'm in love with the sea of clouds ;-)
Here La Verna, a Francescan Sanctuary located in the Tuscan Apennines. Very energetic and spiritual place! Here S. Francesco d'Assisi turned into a visible and concrete image of Christ, receiving stigmata on his hand.
The precipice: a narrow corridor that turns into the open on the side of the rocks. The devil tried to make S. Franscesco fall from the top of this cliff, but the stone he approached, was dug out according to the shape of his body and received it within himself.
Pictures taken with Sony Alpha 7iii and Nikon D800.
These photos are nice!
