RAF Waddington Families Day - Part Two - RSAF Hawks

Twin Hawks

The RSAF Hawks were the next to display. I've seen them before and they are always worth a watch. They're often compared to the Red Arrows, mainly because they use the same aircraft and perform some similar routines.

To be honest most aerobatic display teams perform a lot of similar routines, it's just what works. It provides the excitement that spectators crave from a group of incredibly skillful and brave pilots. Footballers are never criticised for performing the same routines, which is basically what they do every single weekend of the season. So I can't understand why aerobatic teams are criticised in this way?

The Saudi crew displayed for around fifteen minutes, like the Red Arrows before them they had to curtail their display due to the low, overcast sky.

I'm glad I got to see these super pilots once more. I was hoping to catch them the following day as they flew to the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) where they would be performing with display teams from around the world.

Incredible shots B! Keep up the great work my friend.

@castleberry you are so very kind sir. Your support is always so greatly appreciated

Wonderful photos. What setup do you use? I did have a 500mm lens at one point for my old camera system. Haven’t replaced it though as I wouldn’t use it now. I used to get some great shots at Farnborough back in the day.

Many thanks @nicklewis I use a 5D MKIII and a 400mm lens. Would give my right arm for a 500 or 600. But would only consider getting one if I knew that it would get a lot of use. A lot of money for a rarely used lens.

That’s the thing and that’s why I sold mine because it went from being used quite a bit to just those bi-annual air shows. I feel these days expense has to be double justified with the cost of everything in life.

Some really cool shots here Brian, I missed out these, didn't realise it was taking place until I heard the noise and saw all the smoke!
