Humans begin to appreciate things more when we are close to losing them. This situation, which I hope you will agree with, applies to a place in the city where I live, which will soon be demolished, not forever, I hope, but for a few years, for sure.
I am referring to the fountains in Unirii Square in Bucharest, Romania.
These fountains were built at the same time as the construction of the Civic Center, the famous People's House, and the Victory of Socialism Boulevard, at the wish of the former communist dictator Ceausescu. This happened in the 80s.
In those years the fountains looked different, nothing spectacular, it was an architecture copied after the North Korean communist one.
For those who don't know or have never been interested in Romanian history, this Eastern European country escaped communism in December 1989.
After the year 2000, we tried to arrange these places in a more modern way and erase the traces left by communism. I must admit that the change was successful, and Union Square, one of the most famous places in the city, has changed for the better and is now more beautiful.
Under this plateau, a river, the Dambovita, crosses the city. Built almost a hundred years ago, it can't last much longer, especially now that the traffic is much more congested.
Because of this, demolition and reconstruction works will soon start here, which will also demolish the fountains.
I have not been a big fan of these fountains, although I am a water lover and want as many water features in the city as possible. The communist history of the place likely made me less fond of it.
Now that I know they won't be, I start to feel an attraction and a sense of regret, at the same time.
I love water and the color blue and in summer I love the coolness. All these are brought together by the fountains. Walking by the pools and the coolness of the water particles falling everywhere is refreshing.
That's what made me cling to these fountains just now, when they will disappear from here.
The real show, because it is also a show that attracts both locals and tourists to come here at night, is sound and light!
I rushed past and still could see how spectacular it was and how many people came as night fell.
This is a show that is repeated every weekend and is very popular with children who bring their parents along for the ride. This summer was the last time it could be seen. I think that's why these girls were in such a hurry that the movie couldn't immortalize them in the right way.
Of course, I took a totally wrong picture but I try to imagine I was trying to make a painting!
I rely mostly on photos in all my blogs. Words don't help me as much as photos. A wise saying goes that a photograph is worth a thousand words.
I don't think so.
It depends on the viewer.
I can imagine that everyone wanted to see the last performance 😊 Do you know what they will build in its place?
I don't know exactly, but I think something similar and hopefully much better done. Thank you, @delishtreats, for your interest and beautiful memories of Bucharest.
Wow, it sure looks like a wonderful place! Amazing and beautiful ♥
Glad you like it, thank you!
As much as I like lighthouses, I like water fountains, and if they have dancing waters like these, even more. What great shots!😃
Thank you! Interesting comparison with lighthouses, very nice.
I love them both!
I know, I love them too!
Great photos, but I must say, this is not the wrong photo, this is one excellent ICM /Intentional Camera Motion, great, great!
I like this photo too, but I admit I didn't do it intentionally. Thank you!
It seems that livability and breathability in metropol cities today have been decreasing day by day.
Yes, Bucharest is a very polluted city.
