Hello HIVEs!
Part of our newly purchased house is a room with a pool table. If you have the opportunity, why not try light painting on it? Light painting on the pool table? Not a bad idea! Or is it? I couldn't really think of much to do. But I still wanted to try it out.
Teil unseres neu erworbenen Hauses ist ein Raum mit einem Billardtisch. Wenn man schon mal die Gelegenheit hat, warum kein Lightpainting daran ausprobieren?
Ein Lightpainting am Billardtisch? Keine schlechte Idee! Oder doch? So richtig viel wollte mir dazu nichts einfallen. Dennoch wollte ich es unbedingt mal ausprobieren.

We played a round first before I set up the photo equipment there. The table is in good condition, the balls roll smoothly. I'll just have to get new cues. They're all bent and the tips are worn or badly damaged.
Erstmal spielten wir eine Runde, bevor ich die Fotoausrüstung dort aufbaute. Der Tisch ist in einem guten Zustand, die Kugeln laufen sauber. Nur die Queues werde ich mir neu zulegen müssen. Die sind allesamt verbogen und die Pomeranzen abgenutzt oder stark beschädigt.

Then I started to prepare the set. This of course included the dollar bills as a stake and the can of beer on the edge of the table. The room was actually supposed to look a bit foggy. Somehow the e-cigarette didn't want to work that evening. In the end I decided against it.
Dann fing ich an das Set vorzubereiten. Dazu gehören natürlich die Dollarnoten als Spieleinsatz und die Dose Bier auf dem Rand des Tisches. Eigentlich sollte der Raum auch etwas vernebelt wirken. Irgendwie wollte die E-Zigarette an diesem Abend nicht arbeiten. Schließlich verzichtete ich darauf.

First I played around a bit with the billiard balls on the table and brought them into the picture several times. I didn't find that very convincing.
Zuerst spielte ich ein wenig mit den Billardkugeln auf dem Tisch und brachte sie gleich mehrmals ins Bild. Das fand ich dann nicht so überzeugend.

So I started a second attempt using a light blade on a MagiLight tool. This tool can be used to set different color and strobe modes. For the title image, I decided on an oval blade. I moved the blade over the pool table with short swings.
Also startete ich einen zweiten Versuch mit Hilfe eines Lightblades an einem MagiLight-Tool. Mit Hilfe dieses Tools können verschieden Farb- und Strope- Modi eingestellt werden. Für das Titelbild entschied ich mich für ein ovales Blade. Mit kurzen Schwüngen bewegte ich das Blade über den Billardtisch.

Finally, I tried a color change mode (red and blue), again with an oval blade on the MagiLight tool. I show the result in the picture below.

What Is Light Painting?
Light painting is a unique art form. As a rule, the darkness is illuminated by the artist with various light sources and traces of light are painted into the picture with various lighting tools. Various techniques are used, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. When using ND filters, this technique can also be used in daylight. All images were taken during a single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cropping and possibly adjusting the white balance, the images are not processed on the computer.
Lichtmalerei ist eine einzigartige Kunstform. In der Regel wird die Dunkelheit mit diversen Lichtquellen vom Künstler ausgeleuchtet und Lichtspuren mit diversen Lichtwerkzeugen ins Bild gemalt. Dabei kommen verschiedene Techniken zum Einsatz, wie Kamerarotation oder andere Bewegungen der Kamera während der Belichtung. Die kreativen Möglichkeiten sind nahezu unbegrenzt. Bei Einsatz von ND-Filtern kann diese Technik auch bei Tageslicht angewand werden. Alle Bilder wurden während einer einzigen Belichtung aufgenommen. Abgesehen vom Entrauschen, Schärfen, Beschneiden und eventuellem Anpassen des Weißabgleichs werden die Bilder nicht am Computer bearbeitet.

Man stellt nichts auf den Rand eines Billardtisches, vor allem keine Getränke.
Das ist richtig! Für das Set sollte es aber so sein. Die Getränkedosen dienten zur Fixierung der Scheine. Die wären sonst mit jedem Luftzug weggeweht worden. 😉
