Camera Rotation
Thanks to Dominic, our wish came true to be able to visit the Malzfabrik in Berlin a second time this year 2022. There were @lichtkunstfoto, @marlasinger666, @stepko, Stephan and Hans Roufflair. I hadn't managed to come up with an idea for a picture during the last session. This is exactly what I wanted to finish with new equipment. First, a camera rotation in the rooms with the large metal bowls on the floor. I bought a gimbal for that.
Unser Wunsch erfüllte sich Dank Dominic, die Malzfabrik in Berlin ein zweites mal in diesem Jahr 2022 besuchen zu dürfen. Mit dabei waren @lichtkunstfoto, @marlasinger666, @stepko, Stephan und Hans Roufflair. Eine Bildidee hatte ich während der letzten Session nicht hinbekommen. Genau diese wollte ich nun mit neuem Equipment fertig stellen. Als erstes eine Kamerarotation in den Räumen mit den großen Metallschalen am Boden. Dafür hatte ich mir einen Gimbal zugelegt.

Making Of
For this image, I position a Convoy S2+ one floor below and direct the light beam towards the ceiling. This allowed the light to project a pattern onto the ceiling through the grating.
Hans Roufflair first shone briefly in the direction of the camera with the second Convoy S2+ and then hid behind the shell.
With the help of the third Convoy S2+ I shone over the floor and the metal shell. Then I rotated the camera 120° around its own axis and repeated the lighting over the bottom and the bowl.
After 1.5 minutes the picture was on the memory chip.

Für dieses Bild positioniere ich eine Convoy S2+ eine Etage darunter und richtete den Lichtstrahl gegen die Decke. So konnte das Licht durch den Gitterrost ein Muster an die Decke projizieren.
Hans Roufflair leuchtete zuerst mit der zweiten Convoy S2+ einmal kurz in Richtung Kamera und versteckte sich hinter der Schale.
Mit Hilfe der dritten Convoy S2+ leuchtete ich über den Boden und die Metallschale. Dann drehte ich die Kamera jeweils um 120° um die eigene Achse und wiederholte die Beleuchtung über den Boden und die Schale. Nach 1,5 Minuten war das Bild auf der Speicherkarte. Illuminate Rooms
During our last visit to the Berlin Malzfabrik, Hans Roufflair and I illuminated a room.
The windows on the right side, the containers and the walls should be colored by light.
Sounds easy, but it turned out to be very challenging with the resources we had at the time. The high-gloss tiles reflect the light very strongly.
The lighting in the windows was uneven and the light from the bins was so reflective that it overshadowed the paint on the walls. Finally we broke off the project at an late hour.
For the repetition, we used a backlight scanner on an EMISAR D18 with a green color filter to illuminate the room. We placed a Convoy S2+ flashlight near each window, which shined on the ceiling in the corridor, with the distance to the window chosen so that the rear window was illuminated more brightly than the front one. The Silos were illuminated with an EMISAR D18 with color filter.
Während unseres letzen Besuches der Berliner Malzfabrik hatten Hans Roufflair und ich uns eine Ausleuchtung eines Raumes vorgenommen. Dabei sollten rechts die Fenster, die Behälter und die Wände farblich gestaltet werden. Klingt einfach, erwies sich jedoch mit unseren damaligen Mitteln als sehr herausfordernd. Die hochglänzenden Fliesen reflektieren das Licht sehr stark. Die Beleuchtung in den Fenstern war ungleichmäßig und das Licht aus den Behältern reflektierte so stark, dass es die Farbe an den Wänden überstrahlte. Schließlich brachen wir das Vorhaben bei fortgeschrittener Stunde ab.
Bei der Wiederholung setzten wir für die Ausleuchtung des Raumes einen Backlightscanner an einer EMISAR D18 mit grünem Farbfilter ein. In der Nähe der Fenster platzierten wir je eine Convoy S2+ Taschenlampe, die im Gang an die Decke strahlte, wobei der Abstand zum Fenster so gewählt wurde, dass das hintere Fenster heller beleuchtet wurde als das vordere. Die Behälter wurden mit einer EMISAR D18 mit Farbfilter beleuchtet.

Below is our first attempt at lighting the room. Something went wrong there. The light on the walls is unevenly distributed and too weak.
The reflections from the silos outshined the light on the wall.
Since time was already well late that night, we canceled the action and decided to complete the project in a better prepared second attempt.
Unten sieht man unseren ersten Versuch, den Raum auszuleuchten. Da ist einiges schief gelaufen. Das Licht an den Wänden ist ungleichmäßig verteilt und zu schwach. Die Reflexionen aus dem Behälter überstrahlten das Licht an der Wand. Da an diesem Abend die Zeit schon weit fortgeschritten war, brachen wir die Aktion ab und beschlossen, das Projekt in einem besser vorbereiteten zweiten Anlauf fertig zu stellen.

Here you can see the room in daylight. The glossy surfaces of the walls make it difficult to illuminate the room.
The position of the camera and the light sources must be carefully chosen to avoid reflections from the flashlights.
Hier seht ihr den Raum bei Tageslicht. Die glänzenden Oberflächen der Wände erschweren die Ausleuchtung des Raumes. Die Position der Kamera und der Lichtquellen müssen geschickt gewählt werden, um eine Spiegelung der Lampen zu vermeiden.
WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?
Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.

Toller Bericht über unsere schöne Nacht in der Malzfabrik. Es war wieder sehr kurzweilig mit euch und hat mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Deine Ergebnisse (mit Hans zusammen) gefallen mir sehr. Gerade der Raum mit den Fliesen an der Wand ist eine kleine Herausforderung, aber habt ihr gemeistert. 👍👍👍

Sehr coole Bilder. Den Gang hinter den Fenstern statisch mit einer kleinen Convoy zu beleuchten wäre mir nicht in den Sinn gekommen, aber ihr habt bewiesen, dass es funktioniert.
Wir hatten keine Aquariumlichter dabei😂.
