Winter village

IMG_9100.jpg

A few cold winter shots in the countryside. The small village of Smolkino, on the border of the Samara and Ulyanovsk regions. There are about 100 people permanently living here, many residents have moved to the city, and use their houses only in the summer. There is a church and a school in the village, a small store is open every other day. Some houses are abandoned, but surprisingly not looted. At the time of shooting, the air temperature was about -18 -20 degrees, so there are not many photos, I wanted to quickly return to the warm car.😁

I can't even remember when was the last time I saw snow of this quantity. When I was a kid, we had snow like this most of the winter, but those times are long gone and we're happy if we get snow for a few hours.

Lovely photos as always!

I think this is still too little for our region. When I was in elementary school, in the early 90s, there was much more snow. Equipment cleared the roads, and mountains of snow several meters high appeared. And it was much colder, the temperature was often below 30 degrees, and classes in schools were often cancelled. And since we didn’t have to go to school - where were we going? - to sled down these mountains, or dig tunnels in them.😁 This is no longer the case. -25 is already very cold...

And thank you very much for your assessment.🙂

Those were the days! I can imagine how sad you kids were when school were closed 😁

Interesting, not long ago I wrote in one of my posts that no matter how cold it was, even at -25C, schools were never closed here. We would have loved to have a few free days, but were not so lucky ☹️

And modern children don't even know what it means to have classes cancelled. Covid has made its own changes to the education system. If they don't have to go to school, no matter the reason, classes are held remotely.😐

Were there any other reasons why your school classes could be cancelled? For example, there was an accident on the water main, and the school was temporarily without water supply.

No, there were no reasons to cancel classes. They made sure to always keep things going, to our frustration 😂

And you're right, these days if kids can't go to school, there's always online education. I don't envy them honestly.
