Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about the sort of random thought I had when it comes to the colors of the photos I take, edit and post!
Color Makes a Difference
I was just thinking about how some of the photos are really quite different in color versus black and white.
I'm spending time writing my few posts of the week, when I was taking care of my monochrome Monday post, it really struck me how different the photos of the recent snowstorm were in black and white versus color. I think it may seem a little silly or foolish to notice these things, but with the enjoyment I get out of my amateur photography skills, I have been paying attention to these types of things more and more.
The photos here are all obviously color but I turned some of them into black and white, such as the berry ones, and it's striking how different they are there versus in color. The black and white ones are interesting for sure, but the dramatic color of the red berries on the rest of the background when they are in full color is really cool!
Snow I guess presents a whole different set of differences with photos. It kind of equalizes things in a way. If something is flat enough and strong enough, it will collect snow on it. Then it will make it so that the other things end up white but if there is a peak of color coming through, it is much more noticeable than it would be otherwise.
I love these color differences in the various aspects of life. Going to the beach for example and taking photos of the rocks when the water goes away, you see the really dark rocks and it kind of absorbs the colors around it and makes them stick out a lot more than they would otherwise. Pretty cool stuff!
I know that some of my favorite photos of the year are the winter ones with snow in them. They are certainly challenging to experience because of the amount of cold that it means occurred, but that's something that you learn to deal with as time goes on. There are a lot of interesting health benefits and psychological benefits that come from dealing with the cold weather. I don't profess to know or experience all of them but having them as an option is nice.
For me, the benefits of the cold and the snow are certainly on the photography related side! They take some really fun and dramatic photos which are my favorite. These days, I haven't been able to get out there as often as I was before, though tomorrow (from when I'm writing this) I certainly hope to get out there and do a little exploring myself! We've got a few things to do.. so hopefully we can carve out an hour to have some fun in the sun and snow.
What about you, do you think that sometimes color really makes an important difference in a photo? Let me know in the comments!

Yeah definitely! There's this mono contest/activity going on every week on Hive, and to be honest, whenever I see some of those posts, I felt they would look more vibrant if it was the original colour version. Hahaha but that's just me. I guess black and white art is not my cup of tea.
Yeah I do like the monochrome posts and content but a lot of pictures miss things when they aren't in color. With that said, some pictures look way cooler in black and white!
Color and lighting is the cameraman or woman best friend. #creativesparks
That's right! Lol
💯
Thanks I appreciate it!
