Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to enjoy a waterfall that we visited the other day!
What Are You Falling About?
Okay I might be as good as Dandays with having clever titles.. but I tried! :D
It's hard to believe that it's been a year since we've been to this waterfall! We went here during the summer but what is different between summer and late autumn is that the water level for the lake is drastically different between the two. The summertime, the lake is nice and full, plenty of fish and water to go around. In the autumn though, they drain the lakes around here to prepare them for the wintertime and the eventual melting of all the ice and snow that accompanies it come spring time. It's not a bad thing, really. What it does present is some unique opportunities to see a pretty cool looking waterfall!
This waterfall is one that we only saw by accident a few years ago. With how often we are in the area though, we would eventually have found it of course. The interesting thing about it is that it's sandwiched between a bit of a public access area and someone's private property. You can't go on the other side of the waterfall that you can see over there, there are No Trespassing signs everywhere lol. I can't blame them.. but it's a shame because the waterfall is beautiful and it also boasts some pretty good fishing!
It was nice to sit next to it though, listening to the thousands of gallons of water flowing over it as we were hanging out. It wasn't a very tall waterfall but man did it make quite a bit of noise! We were enjoying it for sure!
The thing that surprises me about it is how much it is hidden in the summertime! You can see the far shore over there, the water level is down quite considerably compared to the summertime highs. They drain the lake here of about 5 feet of water or so, which is nuts! The place isn't tiny, it's a few miles in length overall and draining all that water is pretty wild. I don't know where they send it all, I think they put it in another reservoir that is bigger nearby, or separate it out between a couple. They could also just pump the water right into the rivers and let them feed out into the bigger rivers, eventually getting dumped into the ocean. That wouldn't exactly surprise me, though it does pain me to think of all that fresh water being dumped into the ocean instead of filling up other things that could use the water.
It was pretty nice to sit next to it, watch the water flowing over and relaxing with my son for a little while. We had some pretty decent weather when we were there; we did a bit of a lake shore cleanup before we got to this area which was nice. We are planning on going back again so that we can do more cleanup and take out more shit! I get annoyed when I see so much trash in these areas, people are sadly pretty fucking pathetic with their wasteful habits.
I did find this picture from when we went there last year! Little bit of a different angle but roughly the same time, almost no leaves on the trees. The water seems lower than it is this year which is interesting! I guess we did get a decent amount more water this autumn than we did last year!

I've never been to a waterfall before but I'm used to high flowing rivers
They are wonderful to see! The sound is certainly my favorite, very relaxing!
