I was lyin' in a burned out basement
With the full moon in my eyes
I was hopin' for replacement
When the sun burst through the sky
Ol' Neil may have thought we had Mother Nature on the run, but it's looking more and more like the opposite is going to be case here soon. Still a damn good song. We're under a flood watch presently, the ground is well and truly saturated and they're threatening us with up to five inches of rain this weekend.
Should be a good time. Have already given my drainage ditches their first spring cleaning, just got to shovel some dirt in front of the basement windows and hope things don't get too moist.
Everything is a nice shade of winter dead, not to mention the bad case of bedhead from all the recent snow. Haven't had much inclination to venture out into cold and wet, so I pulled out a random hard drive and edited some from better weather.
Grew up a few miles from the middle of nowhere, getting out into nature just meant you walking out the door. Spent the past couple decades living in the city, where it takes a bit more effort.
Don't get out in nature nearly as much as I'd like these days but I definitely appreciate it more now that it's not so handy. This collection of shots are all from recent escapes from the city.
There's no particular rhyme or reason to them, they just caught my eye but never quite found their way into a blog.
Mostly Kentucky but some New Mexico too.
There's nothing like a cross-country road trip for showing you just how much nature can vary. And also how much it stays the same.
In Kentucky, it's poison ivy you've got to always be on the lookout for when out in nature. In New Mexico there's none of that, but to make up for it you've got to keep your eyes peeled for cacti like this cholla. If not, you get to take some bits of nature home with you.
Turkey vultures are nature's garbage disposals, you know when you spot'em circling there's something decomposing nearby. On that note, I will smell ya'll later.
A pair of turtles were playing happily on the bridge, they looked very happy walking around there. I love the look, but my attention is drawn to these beautiful flowers. the crown is so beautiful with soft colors
That's mountain laurel (its wiki page) and it smells as lovely as it looks :)
