Lake Oesa

Lake Oesa is a gem nestled in between the heights of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Fed by glaciers surrounding the lake, the many shades of blue is derived from minerals that have been trapped in the ice for millenia.

The water is as pure and clean as one can imagine. You can see the clarity, not a whole lot is up here at 2267 meters above sea level to muddy the waters. There's nothing in the water but rocks, minerals, a small amount of lichen and grass.

Lake Oesa is sheltered from the wind, the word Oesa is from the Stoney Native word meaning "Corner" The lake is in the corner of British Columbia and Alberta. From here the water drains into the Pacific Ocean, on the other side of those peaks, water makes its way to Hudson Bay on the other side of the North American continent.

One could spend all day sitting on the shores of Lake Oesa taking in the views. These photos were taken on August 5th, you can see the ice almost touching the lake. The rock slide covers more ice making the lake just above freezing.

Above is a photo taken from an iPhone with a different exposure. A small rocky islet sits in the middle of the lake. Oesa Island?

The hike from Lake O'Hara up to Lake Oesa is nothing short of gorgeous. The above photo is looking down 200m towards Lake O'Hara from the trail connecting the lakes. The water cascades down the slopes to the lake pictured below.

From here one sees the Glacier the centre-left high above and across Lake O'Hara. Below that glacier is Lake Oesa. This region is a Hiker's Paradise and is perfect for photographers of scenery. Hope you enjoyed my photos and thank you for visiting.

I do miss the Canadian rockies. I've only done the Rocky Mountaineer Train but feel like there’s so much more to explore.

That train looks fairly awesome and you should come back and drive the route across from Calgary to Golden

Much appreciated @ewkaw and @qurator Team

Such a beautiful gem..imagine if its covered with snow.. ☺️

If it's covered with snow, then everything is white :D

Not only are they stunning photographs, but everything looks incredible, the lake looks like a magical place.

Thanks for your kind words

I have never heard of this lake before. Its waters are beautiful and the place where it is located is very beautiful

It's not a very famous lake unless you're a fan of hiking, camping and exploring the Rocky Mountains. No one lives on it, you aren't allow to boat on it and there aren't any hotels like some of the other famous lakes.

then it means that it is intact as nature built it

That water is gorgeous especially with the looming mountains! Thanks for sharing.

Can't agree more, you're welcome

Such a view and whenever a person goes to such a place, it feels like he is in heaven. I myself like this mountain very much and I would like to visit this place once in my life.

It's incredible and you should visit
