I visited my parents today for one of my mums lovely dinners. However it's been a hot humid day and Mum decided not to cook, so we had a lovely ploughmans lunch instead.
We were expecting thunder storms in which they never came, I had my drone on me and couldn't resist taking it up as the light was beautiful.
I got to my location, and the wind was blowing, I checked my drone app and it said that the wind was 20mph but gusts around 36mph, I sat there contemplating as the maximum you should take the drone up is 26mph.
But, the light was so nice, so I thought it's only gusts, there aren't any hazards, I'll try it.....
Take off was fine, I was very careful with the wind I flew around a bit to get a couple of shots and the drone was holding position, so I took it higher.
I was waiting for the sun to get back on the reservoir as with the patchy clouds it and gusts it was getting put into the shade with the shadow from the clouds. I managed a couple of shots and thought I'd bring her back, this is when the drone started acting up a bit, it started to fly really fast past where I wanted to it to be, I knew it wasn't the drone that was the issue, but the wind, I kept an eye on it as well as the map on screen, lowered the height and brought her back, phew, gladly it was still in sight and didn't go too far passed where I wanted, but it's certainly the first time I've experienced this and only took a few seconds to regain control.
I thought I'd try another shot, and then flying back, it was into the wind, and the drone wasn't moving, as it was fighting against the wind, I kept the forward thrust on and thankfully when the gust stopped she came home.
I won't be doing this in a rush again, and now I know exactly how much I can push the drone.
Anyhow, I managed 3 pictures, and I hope you like them.
Thanks for reading and all the best :-)
