Feeling Festive

Christmas in the past hasn't really been a special time of your for my family. Ever since our kids were little, we never really did much to celebrate this time of year. It could have been because we were always struggling financially when our kids were younger, and we didn't enjoy the holiday season because it is all about consumerism here in America.

Ever since we had our grandson, the Christmas season is one time of the year that we have been looking forward to. I am excited to play Santa and my wife is going to be Misses Clause for our grandkids.

Theo is going to be 7 months old in a few days and he is getting a lot more fun. He has been playing a lot more and really interacting with us. He loves our Christmas tree. He loves being held and shown all the different ornaments we have on it. We got him his own Baby's 1st Christmas ornament and he really like it because it is shiny and has a noisemaker inside of it.

This first Christmas, he we got him a few little toys. I got him a play mat with roads on it and a pack of cars. I am excited for him to use his imagination and drive his cars around the little town on the play mat. I spent so many hours as a little kids playing with cars and our son had a ton of Hotwheels cars. I think that is where his love for cars and speed comes from.

The cats love when the tree gets put up too. They have been a lot better with the tree than they have in previous years. They used to jump up and try to take the ornaments off of it and just knock stuff down. But now they mainly just snuggle up underneath the tree and sleep. I am hoping that our cats are out of their rambunctious younger years.

We still haven't decorated the outside of our home yet and I don't think I will be doing that this year. I am hoping to get lights permanently installed on the house that I can use to light our home up for different holidays. This year, my wife and I are spending a lot of time trying to figure out what kinds of traditions we want to have as we move forward into our years as grandparents.

Just spending time with our kids and grandkids is going to be the goal and not buying the random stuff that companies try and push on us and make us think we need. I went to a few stores on Black Friday this year just to see what sales looked like, but it is all just pointless stuff to us right now. It has been nice waking up to the fact that we don't need any of the junk they try and push on us and realizing the only important thing is time with loved ones.

So as we move into this holiday season, remember that the stuff from the store isn't what is important. Being present in your loved ones lives is what really matter. Life is the biggest gift we have been given. I don't want to spend my time chasing material things when I already have everything my heart could ever want.

Nice photography and more nice to know about the Christmas celebration preparation, coming ahead. Especially, the relationships between the grandparents and grandchild.
