What is Bock?
Good question to myself. So, what exactly is a Bock beer?
In short, it’s a stronger, maltier lager with a rich, toasty flavor.
Unlike your typical light lagers, Bocks are brewed with more malt, giving them a darker color—ranging from deep amber to brown—and a slightly sweet, caramel-like taste.
This bocks usually have a higher alcohol content, somewhere between 6.3% and 7.2% ABV (Alcohol By Volume), making them the perfect brew for cold weather or when you just want something with a bit more oomph. ;-)
All this made me stop in that shop in Aachen to get this nice looking tasting pack.

So, you’re sipping a cold one and someone asks,
“Hey, ever tried Bock beer?”
If you’re like most people, you might just nod, take a sip, and keep the conversation flowing. But let’s dive a little deeper—because Bock beer isn’t just any brew; it’s a sip of history, a toast to tradition, and a little bit of beer magic.

The Birthplace of Bock: Einbeck, Germany
To understand Bock, we need to hop in a time machine and head back to the medieval town of Einbeck, Germany. Imagine the 14th century—no smartphones, no cars, just cobblestone streets and the scent of brewing beer in the air. Einbeck was a bustling beer town, famous for its malty, strong brews that were so good they were shipped all over Europe. This beer wasn’t just a local secret; it was the gold standard.
The people of Einbeck brewed their beer using a unique method, focusing on rich malt flavors. They also had a knack for making it strong, which back in the day was a big deal—strong beer meant better preservation for long journeys. This was the birth of what we’d come to know as Bock.

But where comes the name from
To understand this you need to have the Bavarian Twist: “Ein Bock”
Let’s go fast forward to the 17th century. Einbeck’s beer was so beloved that it caught the attention of Bavarian brewers. They wanted to replicate this brew, but here’s the twist: Bavarians had their own brewing traditions, and they couldn’t quite nail the Einbeck recipe. What they did instead was put their own spin on it, creating a beer that was slightly different but equally robust and malty.
Now, here’s where it gets fun. The Bavarians had a bit of trouble with the pronunciation of “Einbeck.” When they tried to say it, it sounded more like “Ein Bock” — which, in German, translates to “a billy goat.”
And just like that, Bock beer was born, along with its iconic mascot: the goat. To this day, you’ll often find a goat on the label of a Bock beer, tipping its horns to this quirky linguistic twist.
I found this one but the might be even some other stories are involved. The article

might be as well a good read.

Back to my Weizen-Bock
Actually I didn’t know that Weizen-Bock exists, until I saw this little box which loudly calls
“carry me home”.
So here we are five little “Weizen Bock” from Einbeck. They stayed a few days in my fridge and decided to jump out into the nice tasting glass, which comes together with this beautiful pack. What a deal!

What’s a Weizenbock from Einbecker
Simple answer - A Fusion of Styles
When you hear the term Weizenbock, you're stepping into the delightful crossroads where two of Germany’s most cherished beer styles meet: the wheat beer (Weizen) and the strong, malty Bock. Now, if this particular brew comes from Einbecker—the very town where the Bock tradition began—you know you're in for a treat that's deeply rooted in history and crafted with expertise.

Simply put, a Weizenbock is a stronger, richer version of a traditional wheat beer.
It combines the fruity, spicy characteristics of a well known Hefeweizen with the robust maltiness of a Bock.
The result? A complex, full-bodied beer with layers of flavor that make it perfect for sipping and savoring.

I did this with an old iPhone 13 Pro Max
I love to know how to get better. Most of the time I’m to lazy to get the Sony Alpha 6000 out of the hiding place for pictures like this.
