Continuing my first post about our trip to the incredibly beautiful island of Maui last year, which you can view here: https://peakd.com/photography/@dexter-k/maui-in-photos-part-i
We spent most of our time in Kihei near the beach on the west side of the island. It was a really nice area, but to be honest not what I would have chosen if I were the one picking the place. But alas it was all my mom and she really wanted to stay in Kihei, so that's where we were.
In the end we really loved it and it was great to spend some time with my parents no matter where we were.
Since we had rented a car we spent a few days going on drives around the island to see some of the sights. We drove the famous "Road to Hana" one of those days and it was really gorgeous. It took quite a while but it was worth it, the views and scenery all along the way were breath taking.
This was the first stop once we got to the East side of the island, it's the Ho'okipa lookout over Ho'okipa beach, a popular surf spot in case you can't tell. I was drooling over the waves, though to be honest it was probably heavier out there than I could really handle, I wish I could have given it a try. Maybe I could have gone for some small insiders or sit out back and try to catch a lucky one. Anyhow, it was super beautiful and I just watched the waves for like 15 minutes.
Look at that PERFECT shape and offshore wind! AMAZING! But that's Hawaii waves I guess, these islands are the birthplace of surfing and you can see why. About a half hour or hour drive from this spot is the world famous big wave break Peahi, also known as JAWS. If you've never seen footage of surfers charging big waves at Jaws you should really check it out, it's an amazing sight. Unfortunately Peahi wasn't breaking when we were there, it was too small, and we didn't have time to visit anyhow, but I would have LOVED to see it. Maybe one day...
Just behind us on the hill at this spot were all these cute cows grazing, it was a really beautiful place.
CUTE BABY COW!!
One thing you'll notice if you ever go to Maui is that there are chickens everywhere! I don't know why and none of the locals seemed to either, but you just kind of get used to it after a while. I still took pictures of them though.
Continuing on the Road to Hana we stopped at a few of the tourist places, I can't remember what the name of this waterfall is called but it was a really nice easy hike down to it.
Along the way we stopped at a few spots where there were the famous "Rainbow" eucalyptus trees. As the bark naturally peels off these trees it reveals the colours underneath which change and fade as it's exposed. These photos are edited but I haven't enhanced the colour variety in any way, they really do look like this in real life! Pretty cool, plus they smell great.
I'm gonna end this post with another of those beautiful chickie bois. I realized once I started that I actually have a TON of photos from that drive so I'll break it up into two posts and show you the rest next time. We visited some really amazing spots like the famous Red Beach, it was gorgeous!
As always thanks for reading this far! Feel free to follow me @dexter-k on Hive to see more photos from our travels, projects I work on and even some of our professional work.
Like with my other recent posts I'm going to set payout on this one to liquid using reward.app. I'm hoping to make enough rewards in the next little while to get in on the Alpha sale of @holozing, which means I'll be reinvesting all profits directly back into the Hive ecosystem. If you haven't heard of Holozing yet you can see what it's all about by following the community here: https://peakd.com/c/hive-131131/trending. It's an upcoming web3 game developed by @acidyo that I'm excited to join when it launches. I recommend you check it out, and get ready for the upcoming launch!
Weirdly, even since leaving my homeland almost 15 years ago, I've never actually been anywhere with big waves. I don't think I've ever seen a surfer before! Been to plenty of beaches and such but yeah. All flat XD
I can tell you're a photographer, even your casual travel pics look great heh
Dude that's crazy! It's the only thing I am looking at when there is water, is there anything to surf here?? 😅. Glad you like the photos! Yeah my wife and I have been photographing professionally for like 13 years now. It's a great job when it works, not so much during the pandemic, but it's cool to have a legit excuse to buy sweet camera gear 😬
Awesome pictures! Paradise!
Thanks man! Yeah it really is paradise there, would probably try to live there if it was possible for us.
Nice 👍
Thank you :)
