Maui in Photos Part III - The rest of the Road to Hana

in Photography Lovers9 months ago

Following on from my original post about our trip to Maui which you can view here: https://peakd.com/photography/@dexter-k/maui-in-photos-part-i and the follow up post which you can view here: https://peakd.com/hive-194913/@dexter-k/maui-in-photos-part-ii

I left off with some photos of the beautiful chickens that roam freely everywhere in Maui. It's really cool and funny when you first get there, but you get used to it really quickly and hardly notice them after a while.

Anyhow, as we made our way along the gorgeous drive that is the Road to Hana we had opportunity to stop at a few beautiful locations along the way.

We saw this amazing looking spot from the road up on the mountain, so we decided to take a closer look when we drove past. It's called Ke'Anae Point and it's where the famous "Aunt Sandy's Banana Bread" is found. Banana bread is a big thing in Maui for some reason, and I can say that Aunt Sandy's was the best we had! The rocks and water here were so spectacular, it's hard to describe how beautiful the water really was, but I was just mesmerized by it.

Here I am! These are my two default poses when photographed by my wife. The first is the "Not a Crook" and the second is the "Zissou" let me know if you get either of those references 😅

So after we took a look at the views here we drove over to the other side of Ke'Anae Point where the waves were crashing beautifully against the black rocks.

After Ke'Anae Point we drove for quite a while through the narrow winding road, stopping occasionally where there was room to view some of the many beautiful waterfalls and pools.

Eventually we got to Hana, which I honestly didn't take any photos of because we were all tired and cranky 😂 but my wife and I did hike down to the famous Red Sand Beach. Unfortunately my mom and dad were tired and since my mom has a bad knee they decided to opt out of this one. It's a shame because this was one of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen! These are all taken on the hike down to the beach. The water here was really out of this world.

I tried to get a photo of it but I just couldn't time it right. Swimming around in the water here was this big beautiful multicolored fish, I think it was a parrot fish or something, but it was huge! It was so fancy looking.

Here we are finally down on the red sand beach, the sand really is red here. It's not soft sand it's more like really small pebbles, but the color is just super cool!

This spine of lava rocks form a natural barrier to the beach, you can see the different color of water on each side of them. This is where that fancy fish was swimming around.

Finally on the way home we stopped and took photos of some more of the waterfalls that we didn't stop at on the way out. Maui truly is a paradise, it's one of the most amazing places I have ever been in my life. The natural beauty of this island really is the stuff of dreams.

Dang those are some impressive locations and shots!

Yeah it was really stunning! We heard from everyone that the road to Hana is amazing and it didn't dissapppoint. I've travelled to a lot of places and I can honestly say that Maui is among the most beautiful, if not THE most beautiful.

Very beautiful photos. A great post as it gave such a great virtual tour for folks like me who might never get to visit.

The water is so magical there.

About your poses, the presidential was easy but the sec one I got confused with Thierry Henri’s nickname :) had to google to remind myself of the aquatic connection:)

Glad you like the photos!! Honestly I wish they did more justice to the actual colour and clarity of the water, it was magical. Glad you like the poses and the references too 😂 I don't know why I just always do those two when my wife photographs me, I really loved the life aquatic and the nixon one is honestly because of the tv show Futurama that I was obsessed with years ago. The way they portray Nixon in that series is hilarious

After we finished driving the Hana road, we arrived at Black Sand beach. It’s good to know there’s a red sand beach. It seems look more prettier. Btw, the fire destroyed the hotels area last year that most tourists stayed. Have they started rebuilding the area yet?

Yeah we didn't do the black sand beach actually which I think is the more popular spot, but the red sand beach is definitely worth a visit IMO. I saw the photos from the fire it was really terrible, I don't live there so I don't really know but I've heard they are starting to rebuild finally. In an upcoming post I've got photos from Lahaina which is the town that got hit so hard by the fires, it's really terrible, some of the amazing old buildings and trees I heard were completely destroyed.

That Red Sand Beach is definitely something you don't see every day, but the way there and all the surroundings are no less impressive. Thank you for sharing with us this beautiful part of the globe :)

Really glad you like the post! Yeah the red sand beach was super cool. I've seen black sand beaches before in the Canary Islands so that one didn't really appeal to us as much, but we were really glad we took the time to see the red beach, it was totally worth it.

Black Sand beaches sound like the next level! Must have been such a unique experience :)

Thanks for sharing! Photos are great... I feel the vibe! ;)

Thanks so much, glad you like the photos. It's Hawaii so the vibe is just part of it 😁

Thank you so much! Maui makes it easy honestly, it's truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
