A little corner of my Plant room
this time of the year I spend a good deal of time in here to 'refresh'. After working in the studio or even after the exhilaration of a long ramble in the wood or by the sea, this time of year to see the green growing things in little cells and pots lifts my spirit.
A nice rich dark black coffee or a good cup of tea also helps out a bit too. The light on my blue and white tea cup waiting for a sip amongst my growing things , even now in pictoral form, really gives me that "lift".
Two little pots full of "Bird and Butterfly" mix scramble towards the sun
I love to take the packets you can find of 'wildflower' or 'meadow' mixes which is usually a mix of annual and perennial seeds, are fun to plant this way. You then can just pop them down like this, crowded, in a border or I take them and sort of cut them in a spiral so they are a long "plug" to plant.
However you do it, these are part of that Hope and Tomorrow I mentioned in my title.
To Garden is Hope and belief in tomorrow
We take little seeds and stick them in soil on cold Winter's day, loving them, even sometimes ignoring or forgetting them, but when you plant that seed you are planting Hope and Belief in a Tomorrow.
My Grandfather was an avid gardener and I like to think I got most of what I learned from him. Not only planting and care of the garden, but the mind set. The idea that a good gardener will plant trees that he knows full well will never give him shade, but to those who come after, has a good handle on Life in my book.
To do a think for the joy of the NOW and imbue and imbibe it with Hope of Tomorrows is a magical thing.
Taking the word of the 'pictures' on fronts of bulbs and corms and then opening packages with little brown lumps in, is Hope. And the real magic when, come late Summer, in your garden from little pots sewn on window ledges and tables , brillant flowers that DO match the photos you clipped and taped into your 'garden book' is truly uplifting.
Just now, in our current world, with the talk of war and all sorts of bad 'tomorrows' foretold in the news, the realization that a seed planted, even in the cold snow of Winter, can still bear fruit, is Hope.
So, if you feel down or blue about our current world ,why not just nab a little packet of seeds. You'll find them everywhere this time of the year and pop some in some soil and see what happens. Even if they fail to grow they have still taught us the lesson of failure, which is such an important one to learn, as it teaches us to have another go.
And of course it also teaches us to Hope.
I HOPE you can find a moment in your day to find joy and to think and plan for a tomorrow and look forward to it from the Now. And above all remember to stay creative.

Okay. Even I will admit that I now want to go get some wildflower seeds. I love the image of the green plants with the snowy backdrop. My little gifts are still going strong and I even think my experimental cutting is taking hold!

Beautiful plants and so well said! Yes, failure teaches us to have another go at it! I love that.
