One of the most spectacular and rare weather events happened in Vancouver, Canada late 2021. In one of the most temperate places in Canada we had an extreme cold snap - not unlike the one that the eastern coast of North America is experiencing now.
Seeing the weather report the night before I set my alarm for 6:00am and sorted out a ride. My goal was to explore a local pond that I love for its beautiful trees and grasslands.
The park was VERY different. In the early morning it was so dark you could barely make out anything... but with the camera I was still able to capture some quiet scenes of the creeks. The grass was all laying flat under the weight of the hoar frost stuck to everything.
When the sunlight just started to breach the horizon, that's when the real show started. this Panorama is stitched from 20 frames to capture the entire lake area... it was insane.
Here are some more closeup scenes
Of course I didn't want to end the morning yet, so I opted to shoot some quick abstracts of the ice surrounding the pathways.
After the sun rose the frost on all the trees quickly started melting. So after a quick moment to enjoy the scenery I packed up and headed home to warm up.
I hope you've enjoyed these photos, I had a blast taking and exploring this area in conditions like this.

There are some absolutely gorgeous textures in those tree shots. I love frosty twigs and branches.... Nice formatting too Geoff!
Thanks Cath! I was definitely thinking of your shots while out this morning. I felt like this is the closest I'd get to some of the misty morning scenes you get! Glad you like them
Amazing morning that must have been. I hope we have a few like that too over here. Love the shots of those leaves. Thanks for sharing!
Happy to share! It really was a special morning and I was very lucky to experience.
I also hope you get that wherever you're located! Its a splendid experience enjoyed by few
Brrrr this morning was amazing
Hhaha brrr is right! It was a cold but beautiful one!
Well done Geoff! Love those ice patterns, the ferns with frost, and your pano. Nothing like a winter storm to transform the landscape.
Beautiful shots! I really like the one with the green fern
I'm glad you like that one! I've been humming about whether or not it can actually stand on its own or not
