If there is one skill that every photographer can develop and should practice regularly to keep their eye sharp in image composition, it is the ability to abstract objects from their context, reducing them to their most basic or complex elements. It’s like a skill that amplifies in two directions: you either abstract the context or the element.
Si existe una característica que todo fotógrafo puede desarrollar y debe practicar regularmente para mantener su vista aguda en la composición de imágenes, es la capacidad de abstraer objetos de su contexto, reduciéndolos a sus elementos más básicos o complejos. Es como una habilidad que se amplifica en dos direcciones: abstraes el contexto o abstraes el elemento.
Composition is one of the most difficult and complex aspects of photography. In fact, the art of composing can be so vast that many of us don’t fully grasp it. You can compose with the camera, with the environment, or even compose the environment itself. The composition in these photos may not be the precise, unequivocal example of how to compose, but for me, they are images where I use an element that few people notice: a pink-windowed building in the middle of the city. Although it stands there, I haven’t seen it used regularly for photos, so I decided to use it, focusing on its color, its characteristics, and working with a model I love collaborating with.
Componer es una de las cosas más difíciles y complejas que existen en la fotografía. De hecho, el arte mismo de la composición puede llegar a ser tan vasto que muchos no lo tenemos del todo claro. Podemos componer con la cámara, componer con el entorno o incluso componer el entorno. Looking is something we do instinctively, without thinking, but the ability to observe attentively is an aspect of vision that can bring immense pleasure, depth, and meaning to a moment that would otherwise go unnoticed without the practice of conscious observation.
Con este texto, trato de invitarlos a ver con una mirada más amplia o más enfocada. Mirar es algo que hacemos de forma automática, sin pensar, pero la capacidad de observar con atención es un aspecto de la visión que puede llenar de placer, dar profundidad y otorgar sentido a un momento que, de otro modo, pasaría desapercibido.
