We had originally planned to go and explore a place called Slinter Wood, which has some lovely ash trees in it, but it was difficult to access without walking for miles and going uphill. We did manage to have a little pootle around the old mill though. We found a parking spot quite easily and made our way down the footpath at the side of the old mill that was built in the 18th century by Richard Arkwright and is now a business centre. Richard Arkwright was a big topic when I was at school.
Even though the sun was out, it had been quite frosty in the morning. Icy water vapour was coming off the pond.
It looked like someone had left their boots behind. I quite often see abandoned shoes, but never a pair!
As we crossed over the little wooden bridge, the temperature dropped in the shade.
Two different varieties of lady birds were huddled together in the sun.
We walked up the field to find an old derelict stone building. It is quite common here to let them go to ruin, which is a shame.
Unfortunately, the wood wasn't accessible to us, but I don't mind if the walk is relatively short, as long as there's interesting things to see along the way.
We made our way back to the car park. The yellow chevron signs really popped out when the sun went in.
I quite enjoyed seeing some early morning frost as well. The first sign that winter is on its way.
