I was going to opt for one of my tiger lilies as my favourite because they come up every year, fill the garden with green, then shoot up awesome, photogenic blooms that love the rain. Then i paused on this picture of one of last year’s zinnias. I think that is what they are as we grew them from seeds and they were the pick of my little one.
I too am lucky as the gardening is rubbing off on the kids and one is going to college for horticulture!

Here's my current favorite, a Desert Lilly. This is only maybe the 10th one I've ever seen. I really had to pee on my ride to Julian, CA so stopped at a small pull out and there it was. I'm lucky enough to have been in Death Valley twice when the Lillys were blooming. They don't last long and don't bloom every year. It's always a joy to see them...
I've been letting one of our side yards go a bit long with clover. Trying to encourage the bees in the area.

When my kids were younger I'd set them down at clover patches and we'd look until we found at least one. It's been a few years though and I'm out of practice—I only saw one in your photo.
