The name of the net is kind of a joke as you throw it similarly as the lasso. I don't think they call it like that in real life.

The carp here our often sought as rough fish. Rough is a nice way of saying garbage. It's a fish that I'm particularly not fond of. I've tried but don't like the taste. There is one rough fish I like on my table and that is freshwater Drum. Some fish for carp to eat or for the sport if it. I'll admit carp our fun to catch when they have some size.
Oh the nets,hehe. Yes it thrown like a lasso somewhat. There is an art to it, actually took me many throws to become somewhat productive throwing a cast net.
You sure know more about fish than me 😃 I never cook fish, so what I eat is either cooked for me or at the restaurant, therefore my knowledge is limited as well.
