papery leaves

of everlasting love
Once a year, the Helichrysum retortum or everlasting flowers in my garden begin to produce their spikes, their pointy heads. I look forward to it every season, as these plants are really finicky and strange. Every year after they flower, they tend to die, and I never see them again. Every year, I make as many cuttings as possible, so that I might possibly see new flowers year on year.
This year is no different. For a brief moment, I was blessed with a parade of white papery flowers, making my garden as beautiful as it could be.
This is a series of photographs of this beautiful moment when these flowers opened up and provided me with an event that occurs only once a year.
"Opening Up"
Postscriptum, or Once In a Year We are Blessed
Once a year I look forward to this moment. Some of the plants in my garden will flower throughout the year, with certain periods more intense than others. Some flowers will remain the whole year, some flowers will appear more often than others. But these everlasting flowers will only come once a year, and sometimes after it has flowered the plants will die for some reason.
But as soon as I begin to see them getting ready to bloom, I take extra care so that they might give me the most flowers, like this year in which I produced so many new flowers, it was incredible.
I hope that I blessed your day a bit with these flowers, as they blessed mine.
Happy photographing, and keep well.
All of the photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and my Tamron 300mm or Nikor 50mm lenses. The musings and writings are my own, albeit inspired by these beautiful flowers.
