The adorable and infamous Woodpecker is striking with it's orange/red head and ever busy beak pecking a tree. It's chirp or singing is unmistakeable and when you here it, it makes you smile. Or maybe you just hear the "peck peck peck" :-)
This morning's walk brought us to a mother Woodpecker feeding her young. It was perfect timing to find the mother reaching down to feed her child.
These photos were captured with the Nikon V1 (70-300 zoom lens). I had to keep my distance so I would not disturb them, so the zoom lens use was necessary.
Here you see the mother Woodpecker feeding. All along, it was very unusual, like a mini-conversation was taking place. i never heard this before with Woodpeckers. My guess is she was communicating with her baby.
A close up of the baby. So small, and followed the mother everywhere she went. They flew from palm tree to palm tree.
Sometimes you just get lucky and many times we would see the perfect photo and have do not have a camera (with zoom).
The mother was much more concerned about feeding her baby and allowed just a few photos before saying "let's go".
It's was just a lucky morning and good to have a camera around to catch the incredible Woodpecker on our walk in Florida.
