It took me exactly seven seconds to become enchanted by this small town, as much as it takes, to get out of a car and look up!
And it wasn't the beautiful stone-built houses or the lush gardens full of trees and flowers that grabbed my attention. Neither the serenity of a spring noon, in a charming country town.
It was the rock. It was that vertical, reddish hillside that covers the back of the town and can be seen practically from every street. It was that monumental formation that made me love this place, even before I actually see it!
I have a thing for rocks, anywise. Standing in front of a massive, stone surface, calms me. It gives me a reassuring and relaxing feeling. And this one, was all the above in a superlative way!
If I am allowed to exaggerate a bit, I might say that I can't imagine doing anything else than staring at this hillside, all day long, if I ever lived there :)
I totally resonate with those girls, two pictures below, that were standing the whole time I was in that plaza, looking towards the mountain with their binoculars. I would probably have done the same thing if I had binoculars with me.
As I found out, Leonidio is a popular destination for rock climbing (no wonder), as well as hiking and it is now one more place that I have to visit for, at least, a few days, when I'll have the time. But this once it was just a short stop in a road trip and I just had to make sure that I won't fall down, as I was wandering in the town, looking up in awe!
The light was in my favour too, as it was sunny with a few clouds, just enough to make the scenery even more interesting that it already was. I wish I had more time to explore a bit more but I shouldn't be ungrateful.
For a pit stop, it was just fabulous!
I have to end this post with one more shot of this captivating hillside that was imprinted in my memory and in my heart, probably for ever!
