OMG! What time is it?
Is it two o'clock already?
The castle is closing at three thirty and I still run errands. That leaves me with less than an hour to honour my personal tradition to visit an archeological site the first Sunday of the year! But Palamidi castle is so close. I can see it almost from everywhere in the town and I can be in front of its gates in less than 10'.
No I won't skip it even if I am late. Even if I need at least six hours to wander to all of it. One hour is better than nothing and one hour above the city in a beautifully preserved Venetian castle is good enough for me.
I would say good enough for everybody :)

The date was Sunday the 5th of January 2025. The sun was shinning and the town was packed with visitors from the nearby city. And some of them found their way to the castle!
Last year the same day it was rainy and gloomy but I was there anyway. In fact I was there much earlier and stayed for quite a few hours until I cross it from one end to the other. But this year time was limited. The guard on the entrance had already warned us that the gates close at 15.30.
NO EXCEPTIONS!

But I knew exactly where I was going and what I was after. It is easy to move fast in a familiar place. I wouldn't recommend it though to a first-timer. Both the view and the buildings of the castle take time to explore and appreciate.
Myself I knew in advance what pictures I was going to take. Some of them for the second or third time. But I also knew that every time they turn out different. The weather, the time of the day, a passing by element in the composition, a slightly different angle, there are so many reasons that make a picture unique!

And not to forget that the pictures are complementary to the walk itself. The joy comes first from the experience and it doesn't have to be validated in front of a screen.
Although I do enjoy to see that I took one or two nice shots :)
Have a nice weekend ahead!

The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 6D mark II with almost all my lenses!
EF 16-35mm f4L, EF 24-105mm f4L and my favourite oldie from the 80s, a black EF 80-200 f2.8L
I edited the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic .
All the pictures and the words are mine.
