Just be patient

Getting ready for a big trip is always time consuming and this one was no exception. On the contrary. Although we are are not expecting to be away for more than a month, we had to pack clothes for two seasons as the weather still feels like summer but will probably be winter when we are back (at least it should be), as well as clothes for working in the farm and some basic food and spices that we can't find easily on the village, cameras and laptop to document and share our journey and much more...

Because this is not a simple excursion. We are leaving the scenic little town of Nafplio to go to Crete, the biggest of the Greek islands, our previous home, for almost a decade and the place that our olive groves still are! And November is the best month for the olives harvest. At least that was what I was thinking on November first, the day that our trip began but meant to be much different than we were anticipating!

I shouldn't rush though, this post is just for our first stop and our walk to Gythio, a charming little town on the south of the Peloponnese region and a port that connects the mainland with Crete.

The boat was scheduled to departure at five o'clock in the afternoon and we had a two hours drive to get there. We figured that we had plenty of time to pack our staff, load it on the car and be there early enough to have a nice walk and grab a bite before we put out to sea.

We were so wrong. At 14.30 we were still loading the car and it was obvious that we would hardly catch the boat. And then an sms from the ferry company came. The boat was two and a half hours delayed and the new departure time was set at 19.30 in the afternoon!

Exactly the hours that we were missing :)

I have been there one time before, many years ago but @traisto had never see it before and it would have been a shame if we hadn't the chance to walk around a bit!

Not to mention that Marcos (our canine companion) would never forgive us if he hadn't the time to sniff properly the town that we were passing :)

Many of the shops were closed for the season but with temperatures close to 30°C (86°F) it was feeling like a quiet summer afternoon. Anyway a seaside walk is always pleasant and the stone-built old buildings made it even more interesting!

That's all for now. So many things have happened over the last 12 days and I have so little time to devote in front of the screen but eventually I'll tell you all about it.

Just be patient :)

Some really beautiful photos in this one!

They're so clear! And the colours are gorgeous.

Are these olives in this photo? 👀

p.s My friend once said dogs sniffing on their walks is like humans reading a newspaper. They're busy getting all the information on what's happened in the area recently. Good you let him "read the newspaper" on his walk! Cute :)

Thank you very much, I am glad you like them :)

Those under the house are prickly pears, the olive trees look something like the picture below. They are the objective of this trip but I have a few more posts before I get there :)

Haha yes, I've heard about the newspaper parallelism and I try not to ruin it for him!

Thanks for the info and the pic! That's next level stuff.

We have prickly pear trees out here further up North. More arid up there. Never seen them grow that big though.

Look forward to more of your travels 💥

Lovely photos. Looks line the ideal place to explore here. Enjoy your trip and hope all goes well with the harvest.

Thank you very much!

Apparently we are not going to have a good harvest this year but, at least, we'll have a lot of time for exploring beautiful places :)

That’s a shame but as you say there’s an upside at least!
