12 Months, 12 Memories: My best photos of the year 2024!

Reflecting on the photographic year 2024

It's the end of the year and that's traditionally the time for reflecting your past year.
And why not do this for your photography too. Scrolling through your photo archive is a good way to see what you all have done this year. It can bring back good memories of holidays, parties, day trips or other events that happened.

I've been going through my archive and sharing some of my best shots or shots that hold good memories for me.

January: The alps

I took this photo during my skiing trip in the first week of 2024. It was such a cloudy day when whe went up the mountain with the gondola, but when we got higher we went through the deck of clouds and had this stunning view over the valley.

February: Sunrise over the meadows

February usually is quite a dark and wet winter month. But sometimes we get lucky. I regularly cycle to work and although it's always the same route you sometimes get to witness some really spectacular views. Especially when the sun comes up like it did in the photo below. It's such a present.

March : Challenging times

Back in March we had some issues with my daughters health. Everything is fine with her again, but it were challenging times. I didn't find that much time to take photographs. I did go for a ride with my friend through the dunes a couple of times to unwind.

April: Some more sun!

April was a better month with a bit more sun. I really like to go outside for a walk and it's much nicer on a sunny day. I took this photo during a walk in the dunes. Have I already said that it's lovely to live close to the beach? I sometimes tend to forget how I am with that.

May: A typical Dutch scene

When you say; The Netherlands, you say windmills. We have over thousands of old windmills in our country. They are so typical for the Dutch landscape and 'our' constant battle against the water.
These windmills used to pump the water out of the polders creating dry land.

June: Another typical Dutch tradition: cycling

For those who didn't know yet; I'm a fanatic cyclist. I ride a couple of thousand kilometers a year. Every year my friends and I plan a long trip (200+ kilometer) in June.
This time we went through the cycling tunnel under the Maas river. This tunnel is about 1.2 kilometer long! Even I found it quite impressive! And the white tiles made it quite photogenic too!

July: Start of the holiday

At the end of July we went on holiday. In the first week we spent some time near San Sebastian in Spain. I've made some nice morning walks in the area there which is absolutely beautiful. Because it also rains quite often the area is so nice and green. Very unlike the rest of Spain. I took this photo after it had rained in the night and the sun warmed up the valley creating this beautiful mist.

August: More holiday pictures!

How can I skip the beach pictures from our holiday? This is Platja d'Aiguablava on the east coast of Spain. The water is so nice and clear. Very photogenic.

September: A city trip to Ghent

Just one month after our holiday we went to the city of Ghent, Belgium for a city trip. I consider myself very lucky that I'm able to make these kind of trips. Going through my photos even makes me realize this more.
This photo was taken in the hall of the Belfort tower which we visited. I just lived the woodwork and the pattern of the tiles on the floor.

October:

In October my wife and I had planned to join an organized 20 kilometer hike with some friends. This caused us to start training in the weeks before that. Despite the fact that we live in a dense area we do have quite some nice spots to go for a walk. And the nice thing about making long walks in nature is that you can take a lot of photographs like the one below.

November: Some architecture shots

I mostly make photographs of nature since I like being in nature. But every now and then I get inspired by other photographers on Hive to try out something new. This is why I took my camera to a nearby city in November where I made some nice shots of the architecture.

December: Cold, windy, rainy, but also sometimes dry

In December it's winter over here. That means shorter days, a lot of rain, wind and cold. But sometimes we are lucky and we do get a nice and sunny day. The picture below was taken on such a day. Although the sun isn't that strong, it does make it feel a lot better than when it's gone!
And the low hanging sun is perfect for shots like this too 😃

To wrap it up

We've had some ups and downs in 2024, but overall it was a good year. I'm quite happy to see that I've delivered some nice shots again. Browsing my archive to find a photo for every month made me realize more what I've done in the past year.
I've also set up a few initiatives on Hive for instance the Hive Photographers Discord Channel, the Feedback initiative #AAP and also the Topcomment initiative to reward comments and reward engagement on Hive.

I hope you like this initiative too and I'm looking forward to your most memorizable photographs of 2024!

Let's say #goodbye2024

Wow, great photos! I noticed that most of them are in nature.

And why not do this for your photography too.

And yes, I will try to do this! :)

Fabulous captures in every month, lighting and opportunity you made good use of.

Thanks!
Have a Merry Christmas!

Fantastic shots.

My favourite is the November one. Genious to have it in black/white. December almost looks like a painting.

Have a merry Christmas.

Bonitas fotografías del año 2024 @friendlymoose 👏🤩. La que más me gusto fue la de noviembre: súper tenebrosa y espectacular bro.

En blanco y negro le da un toque especial. Saludos y feliz navidad 🎄😊🙏🏻.
