A Spider And A Butterfly - Photographs

in Photography Lovers6 months ago (edited)

Hello Everyone,

Today I stumbled upon a spider in my kitchen.

Check this thing out...

I was informed by a friend that this is of the Latrodectus genus, a very venomous spider. The recommendation was to get rid of it immediately and I did just that. I feel pretty lucky to have captured this gif anyway.

I also managed to capture some photographs of a Giant Swallowtail butterfly. Considered to be a pest to lime trees. It was most likely laying eggs on my lemon tree and was the reason I was provided with an opportunity to capture the largest butterfly in this region. It can span as wide as six inches in its wingspan.

All of these photos above are crops from a bigger image. I cropped them out for the zooming effect it creates.

To get an idea of the size of this butterfly I will include one of the original uncropped.

I got a good look at it a couple of times when it was most likely laying eggs on the lemon tree (will need to check for that later) and would estimate it's wingspan to be about four or five inches.

It's definitely majestic and beautiful and I don't know if it's rare around here or not, but I certainly will not kill it if I see it again. I'll just remove the eggs if it laid any.

I would not have even known it was a pest to lemon trees had I not done the research.

The spider on the other hand was dangerous to keep around, otherwise I would have let it live like I do with centipedes when I see them.

What do you think of these creatures?

I'd love to read your thoughts in the comment section!

Thank you for stopping by!

Have a good day! -@futuremind

Boy: Hey lady, I gotta good news for ya. There's a spider on your desk!
Lady: WTF you call that a good news?!
Boy: Yeah good news, because male spider non venumous.
Lady: What about the bad news?
Boy: The poisonous female spider is under your armpit!
Lady checking beneath her blouse: WTF?! Where? Where?!
Boy checking for spider: Wow!

That's a good one 🤣

In my house I have let several spiders live quietly especially in the hot and rainy season where there were many mosquitoes, in the end they ended up dying naturally but they were harmless spiders so it is completely understandable that you have taken that one out.
On the other hand beautiful captures of the butterfly despite having vibrant colors it looks beautiful, there are people who are afraid of butterflies and I'm surprised hahaha although I understand that if you see them very close maybe they are not so cute.

Thank you my friend.

Spiders do not bother me so much with the scare factor. If someone had not recommended I get rid of it, I would have left it so it could potentially eat bugs I don't want around.

I find butterflies lovely, albeit they are some ugly creatures up close I agree hahaha.

You’re the one who reminded me that we have butterflies😁😁
It’s been over three months since I’ve seen one
Nice pictures!

Perhaps butterflies are more rare in Lagos?

I hope you will get to see some butterflies soon.

Thank you my friend.

In these past days, I’ve been trying to capture a butterfly in a photograph, but I haven’t succeeded. Your shots are magnificent. I hope to get photos like that next time.

Thank you @soyernesto!

It can be tricky to capture them sometimes, as they seem to know what you're doing and will make it harder for you by fluttering around a lot :D

Best of luck with capturing some butterfly photographs!

Spiders and I don't get along.🤦😱 I don't mind other bugs etc. ... we have a night light in our yard and moths land in it over night. I'm the mornings, we go and pick moths off and feed to the chickens (what's left from where little birds fly in and eat). They (our chickens) love the gray ones, there's some that look like a strawberry burst color they'll eat those ok but there's this one, huge orange/white color... They won't go near it🤷 (apologies I didn't know the names of any of them)
I didn't realize how "green your thumbs" are! What else do you grow?

Edited due to my phone thinks it knows better than what I want to say🤦🤣🤷

Thank you @rachaeldwatson!

I am willing to bet anything that you have more bugs and wildlife to deal with by far than what we have in the condensed cities.

Thank you for saying I have a green thumb. It is a dream of mine to one day live on my own small piece of land instead of being stuck in a city like I have for the past 38 years on this planet so I can grow medicinal plants to contribute to the world more efficiently than in a condensed city.

Right now I have a small aloe farm, some bamboos, tradescantias, a few small succulents, an old pepper plant that gives me peppers multiple times a year, and that's about it aside from the cannabis but only because I don't have more space for more plants lol.

🙏 your dream comes true🤗

We bought a small and I mean small lot up in North Arkansas in the hills. One day maybe we can actually live there. If not it'll make a good "bug out" spot. But again so will this place if we are able to get it.
Our landlord passed and her son offered my son a chance to buy it.(Waiting on the appraisal) We have neighbors but it's not like in the city.. They're across a pasture then across the road.
Far as growing things, I had a pretty nice garden this year considering how bad the soil was..
A man that lives not far from us drive his tractor over and disked it up for me.
We had tomatoes, peppers, pinto beans and purple hull peas, squash, cucumbers and watermelons. They all did fairly well considering the soil wasn't the greatest. (Found out with my tomatoes the ground had calcium deficiency.. Had to Google why my tomatoes were black on the bottom.) It affected my Roma's the worst. The celebrity tomatoes did a lot better. The peas and beans were fine, and so we're the peppers. Squash and watermelon.. We got some but not much.
The chickens killed my onions and potatoes I had planted outside the garden area in containers.. By digging in them. Anyways I just realize my reply was turning into a book🤦🥴
Anyways, I enjoy gardening but it is a lot of work.
Have you looked into vertical containers? You can grow all kinds of goodies in them and they didn't take up much space🤷
Ok for real I'm hushing🤣.. I'm high and rambling 🤣🤣
!LUV

I don't mind the long replies. I also am long winded with responses sometimes :D

I hope you're able to get the place. It sounds like a good arrangement with a good amount of privacy.

The garden sounds like it was pretty nice. So much of that stuff I've never grown before myself. I had my first outdoor garden this year and fate had it that it couldn't just be mine because the neighbors insisted it was their plans too and we were to do it together, only to have them completely take it over and dictate how everything goes while dismissing my suggestions for certain things. So, I think I'll just stick with growing things in tents for now :/

Oh bless your heart I'm so sorry to hear that!!😞
I'm definitely not a gardener but I'd like to be! I've had a few gardens before but this was by far the most I've ever planted. Hopefully next year we can plant again... I've been working on composting, plan on covering the garden area and turn the chickens loose in there and let them help me mulch it all up🤭
Hopefully then we can get a better crop. As I said it did pretty good but the ground is lacking a lot apparently. I was told where I planted my peas and beans, that they fix the ground. Who knew lol 🤗

Your photos are very beautiful! It really feels good.

Thank you!
