Like pink spiders

fuck off (6).jpg

A few days ago I posted about some flowers I'd plucked from my garden and photographed, they were jonquils (daffodils) and you can take a look at them here if you'd like. They're still going strong and making my garden and house smell glorious, however they're a little overshadowed by something brighter and, in my opinion, quite odd...I refer to my Nerines - the Pink Gurnsey variety to be exact.

I've designed my garden to flower all year round and have tried to time everything so there's no gaps in between blooms; I'm at the mercy of the weather though and this year it's been a little odd meaning flowers are blooming when they should not and not blooming when they should...fortunately my Nerines have done what they're supposed to and I have swathes of vibrant pink flowers that contrast beautifully against the rich green of their foliage which resembles the leaves of the Agapanthus - These flowers are related, both part of the Amaryllis family.

The flowers themselves remind me a bit of lilies although the petals are thinner and and have a frilly edge. They're pretty though and even though they resemble pink spiders (I don't like spiders) I'm pleased to have made the decision to put them in.

These grow to some forty five centimetres in height so allow me to plant shorter flowers, such as the jonquil as mentioned, below them which provides a nice mix of colour, shape and height.

Nerines do not smell, well not much anyway, the fragrance is very subtle, but what they lack in scent they make up in visual impact and, like my jonquils, I cut some for inside and leave some outside also - beauty in and out is a good plan right?

It was a little challenging to take these shots as the flowers are so spider-like and a little messy I guess, but I managed to get a few I was happy with and you're looking at them. If you'd like to make a comment below please do so, tell me about your own Nerines, or other flowers you have planted or potted, choose your favourite image, or tell me that they all suck if you like - Either way, I'll respond.

I knew these would be hard to photograph, but, I think you came out on the winning side! They are difficult to pose and sometimes don't comply, but, the first, third, and fourth shots. I like the way you posed them but then again, I like the way they look very natural, as if they were carelessly strewn about.

I think I told you I have some very similar to these, or in the same family, but, for a few years, I pulled them out when they started coming up because I didn't recognize them and thought they were weeds.

You and flowers. Who would have thought?

Tres excellent! Do it again.

I went with the haphazard look as they are a little that way by nature. It seemed appropriate and the easiest way to present them. I tried a vase but couldn't get the arrangement right and they're really too tall for that (and the background I have) so I cut them down and what you see is the result.

didn't recognize them and thought they were weeds.

I've done this in the past...I got in trouble too, but I owned it. I think most gardeners, if honest, have done such things.

You and flowers. Who would have thought?

No one probably, but that's the thing with me, I'm varied and flexible in what I do and don't like to label myself or limit my interests; I also don't feel the need to tell everyone everything all the time so when something a little different comes out people are like, WTF?

I hope you're well and your weekend has been travelling along nicely.

Haphazard is fitting, good call. I like the darker background too, the contrast is striking.

I'd be okay with doing it once, pulling them out, but two years in a row? Same ones! I'm done with it. I hope to never forget.

I wouldn't dream of labeling you!

It's a busy weekend! How dare it! All's well here. I hope the same for you!

but two years in a row

I knew you were bonkers. This conforms it. Lol.

All good here, feeling ok, although it's bloody cold and I can't get warm...despite it being a cloudless blue-sky day and plenty of sunshine. Typical Adelaide winters day.

Warm broth, it'll heat you from the inside out.

Adelaide sounds perfect! Enjoy your day! Goodnight from here!

I'm on the coffee...it's ok, but not doing the trick. Maybe I need some home made soup?

Have a nice sleep, I'll catch you later.

They really do look like spiders man, we don't have these type in Ireland, or at least I've never seen any. Nice photography as always 👌

If spiders were actually pink I still wouldn't like them, but these ones are acceptable. 😊

Them pink ones are proper nice. I have a similar kind of purple one. I will have to check the name when I get back see if it is the same!

Pink and purple go together well...like ebony and ivory, whisky and ice and Blurt and fucktards. 🤣

I had no idea there were such beautiful flowers like these, they have such a wonderful color. We share this null liking for spiders, but beyond the name, what a beautiful flowers you have.

Hey mate thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.

These flowers look so great in my garden, a splash of vibrant colour against the greens especially and in contrast to the white of the jonquils. It was a stroke of genius to put these in although I almost did not due to the lack of fragrance. They look good though so I thought I'd give them a shot.

What a beautiful flower!!!! I loved it!

I recognised that they belong to the Amaryllis family and also to the lily family. Because at home, back in Argentina I had a lot of them and some very similar to the ones you show, they are called "aparecidas" lilies, because they bloom every 7 years, nature is incredible. Did I tell you that I love nature? I think many times.

Lilies are also part of the big family but a bit different. I had three different types of colours over there... I will look for some time if I brought some pictures, although they will be of bad quality, they are very old.

They look like spiders, how capricious is nature that makes such wonderful things. I love those kind of flowers, more than roses or the ones that women usually like.

You brought back memories, nice memories, thank you.

My favourites? the last two, but they are all great. You are a great photographer and I look at what you do because I want to learn.

Thank you Galen!🤗

Yeah, it's pretty nice this one.

Those ones you mention bloom only every seven years? Thankfully these ones I have come back every year and I'd not want to wait seven years for them.

Thanks for you comment and you've picked out two of my own favourites from this post.

Today I photographed two other flowers from garden, this time out in the garden and those posts will be coming up in the next week or so. I hope you'll take a look.

I'm sorry my comments in reply may not be so good, you write vert long comments mostly and I simply don't have the time to respond in as much length most times.

Only one species of lily blooms every 7 years, it's a long time to wait, but my grandmother had them and I kept on taking care of them.

I'll be waiting for the new publication.

Relax, I understand, but in this kind of publications I can reflect and express myself more, that's why I do it and it's a pleasure.

I still haven't figured out how you do the black background.... I'll figure it out 🤣

I still haven't figured out how you do the black background.... I'll figure it out

It's no secret, I've mentioned it a few times but I'll let you keep guessing for a while. 😊

You made me laugh! I really like that contrast.... I'll keep practising!😀

Those are very beautiful! When my wife and I moved into this house, the old owner had it set up so everything bloomed at a specific time in our gardens. Unfortunately, my wife and I suck at keeping things alive and we hate weeding so most of it is gone now...

Thanks mate, ai put a bit of effort into it and despite having some failures have more success. Maybe I just get lucky.

They are beautiful. You sure are a green thumb. My wife is the flower person of our house. I love looking at them and smelling them, but I just can't grow them. Veggies I can do, but not flowers for some reason. It could be because they take a great deal of more patience and attention to detail than what I am willing to give anymore.

Sort of off topic, but not, your title reminded me of this song:

Great track, I'm a big Mellencamp fan and was only talking about him a. Ouole weeks ago, wondering what he's up to. He'd be in his seventies now I guess.

I would imagine he is getting up there. I think he is living here in Indiana in his home in the town of Seymour. He always remained tied to his hometown roots there. I may be wrong though. From what I can tell he is still writing and recording.

He knew how to put a song together, that's for sure. I had a chance to see him perform back in the day, unfortunately something came up and I had to travel away and I missed the show. I wasn't pleased.

Yes, he is a writer. I was just reading earlier where he was trying his hand at being a playwright as well lately. I didn't read much more though. I have never seen him in concert, but would have loved to. I would still like to see him preform his songs actually.

Your shots are gorgeous. The guernsey lillies are so pretty. I hope you will get to enjoy them inside and out for some time to come. You garden must be gorgeous at once you planned it to always have something flowering.

They certainly are, such a different looking flower, but still with a lot of appeal.

Charming flower, I like the color, the pink is tempting. Flowers are not only about smell, but look, even though they are messy, it doesn't spoil their beauty at all.

I like what you mentioned above, almost all of its body parts are similar to spiders because messy is where their extraordinary beauty lies. What a shot!

I agree with you, despite these not being the most perfect flower they represent themselves perfectly and their beauty comes through. Flower, as you so rightly mention, are about many different aspects, not just their fragrance. Thanks for your comment.

These look beautiful, and you did a good job with the photography☺️

Thanks, I enjoyed representing these flowers in my image but in truth, the flowers themselves, and the camera, did all the work. 😊

We then could say they did a great job😁

Delightful flowers

Thank you, they look so nice in my garden so I thought to share them with the community.

That's so smart to never have your garden sober and enjoy all kind of flowers blooming. I envy you for that and for all the beauty you are surrounded by!

I try to create the beauty you mention at my house in many ways, the flowers are just one. My home is like my castle, a place ainwant to feel comfortable and peaceful. Gardening helps.

This giving me NEZUKO vibes from demon slayer anime tv series.

That's exactly what I was going for. Ok, not really...I don't know what all that means, (other than anime) but it's good you drew a parallel.

all the macro shots are beautiful, brother, congratulations ❤📸

No worries, thanks for saying so.

Its very amazing colour flower specially pink colour and first time see this kinds of flower with its exceptional name

It's an interesting flower for sure, I'm glad you like it.

Pretty flowers you got there, garden flowering all year round looks awesome!

Yeah, it's nice to have something flowering all year around and the variety is welcome too.

Pink... This color is not one I like until I was fourteen.

I got a suit for my graduation and didn't want to wear a white shirt because alot of people do that. I just told my mom to get me any color and she got pink.

I was so mad because I thought pink was girls colour but on that day, it made me stand out and somehow, I fell in love with pink.

I don't have a flower garden but I love flowers and can imagine what you garden looks like.

The flowers still looks beautiful to me and I will choose the second image as my favorite. I don't like spiders, they are creepy but if flowers happens to be spiders, who knows if I even embrace them...

Real men are not perturbed or dissuaded by social stigmas and prejudice around colour, they just own it, be themselves comfortable knowing that a particular coloured shirt doesn't define them and stand tall when others wish to pull them down.

Pink isn't a gender or sexual persuasion, it's just a colour.

That's true, I was just a teenager and after that experience, my idea about colours changed.

Every colour is beautiful... Unique

The colors, the details of the flowers looks wonderfulll

Yeah, I thought so too.

Hermosas flores y hermosas fotografías 😍 muy buen trabajo realmente excelente 🌹

Wow, amazing macro photography

Cheers, I appreciate you taking a look and finding the time to respond, I like to engage with people from all over the place so welcome commenting.

These pink flowers daffodils remind you Lily but it is reminding me a poem by William Wordsworth which I read in my 9th standard.

These are not daffodils, they're Nerines, as I explained. Before commenting on a post, you should read it.

I have never seen pick spider anytime🤔.
Those photographers are looking outstanding and I liked all of them but In my eyes, I liked the white flower most you shared earlier. Maybe it's because I like white color most.

White is best.

Daffodils, the name of a poem I had to study hard in English literature while I was at the High school
Well, at least they are so beautiful that the memories are softened!

Yeah, daffodils are great, these aren't daffodils though.
