My first car was a Beetle, 1964. It was a rust bucket but I paid for it with money I'd saved for a couple years at a part time after-school job and at the age of 16 I was pretty happy with it.
There's no way someone can afford a car these days with work after school. Sad where we've come to. Maybe you managed to earn money for the bike. Oh, so you drove my dream car! Buying it now would cost me a year's salary. It's funny, I don't even like new cars that much. The car I have now, from 2018, costs less than an old Beetle from 1958. But without a garage, I wouldn't want to own a classic car like that. It's the kind of car you take out for a drive every now and then, dust off, and then put back in the garage. ;)
Yeah, it was a long time ago in 1986 and I paid $450AUD. I was pretty proud of my efforts considering how little I was earning at that supermarket job after school a d considering that as soon as I started working there I began paying muy parents board money to help them out as they were not wealthy people. I started that job when I was 13 and three years later it culminated in that Beetle and enough money to register it and run it.
Later I bought a 1972 VW Fastback TLE (fuel injected) and loved that car and since then have had countless vehicles, 50+ actually. I've been fortunate enough to have worked hard and made good decisions and been able to engage in one of my passions, vehicles.
I love Beetles, such an awesome car and would love one now, an old one, but like you say, they're costly!
Wow, it sounds like you've had quite an amazing journey with cars! I had to google what kind of car you meant because I didn't know the model, but it's beautiful :)) My first car was a Twingo, and I bought it for 1000 euros. I started working at a bar after school when I was 17 to save money for a car. I was in love with it, probably because I worked hard to buy it myself, which meant a lot to me.You must have been really proud to save up for that Beetle while working at the supermarket and helping your parents. It's inspiring how hard you worked from such a young age. Owning over 50 vehicles is incredible! You've really followed your passion for cars. i'm not sure if kids nowadays appreciate what they receive from their parents. My mom always said that I need to work to buy things myself so I can truly appreciate what I achieved on my own, without any help. And yes, it helped.
Kids (most of them) don't appreciate much at all, they're often too busy feeling entitled to something for nothing, and I certainly think work ethic is low on their priority list. Well done for taking your future into your own hands.
