Upgraded my photo lighting.

in Photography Lovers4 years ago (edited)

Hey!

I finally upgraded my lighting setup with three softboxes and a background muslin. I guess this is kind of a turning point for me. I now have a small studio, in our livingroom, taking space...

This one was a quick test shot. It appears that I messed up the focus, but other than that, it worked kind of nicely.

And I love the photo. The subjects are very photogenic!

The softboxes I got were the cheapest I could find on Amazon. But they don't seem too bad, and do what was advertised. They could produce a bit more light, but I guess I can live with this for now. Especially because I can always add more light with my flash, and also with the industrial floodlights I had purchased for my mini studio before last christmas.

What a mess!

It seems I need to clean up again.

See ya!

Wait you mean everyone doesnt have soft boxes and muslin in their bedroom over there. BTW, I have black on one side and blue on the other and I can just spin it for the desired color :)

Heh...

Our livingroom is a bit cramped with those three light boxes. A separate studio room would be nice.
You've got six of them?

Oh yes in my bedroom/studio. I film my Youtube/Dtube vids in here most of the time. I think of them as kind of modern art lol. :) You cannot have any shadows on the green/blue screen or it will show. To change things up, I like to use the Detroit skyline motion b roll behind me like here. Kind of like the Late Show with David Letterman set.

I got a green screen muslin with the package too. Haven't tested it out yet, because I haven't been doing much video work lately. Not really my forte I think.

Btw, having watched the video, I've got to ask... Is the blurriness around your hair and transparency in the edges of your shirt a focus issue, or is it particular to the blue screen? I was thinking the focus was off, but then got to thinking that since the shirt and the glass were both in focus, you might be using a narrow aperture anyway... The result looks interesting. Might give it a try one of these days.

I probably could turn the blur a pixel or two on Da Vinci Resolve. BTW that is a great piece of editing software and totally free. You can adjust the blur where an object meets the blue to prevent any fringing.

@gamer00,

Looks like a studio photo with Ninnu and you.

@Ninnu & @Daabi2006 to be exact.

Leo is my elder son, he also sometimes posts on Hive.

You really created a photo studio in you apartment.
I love the photo.

Thank you! 😊

You're welcome boss

The photo looks really great 😁

Thank you!

Oh wow!! Love the test shot.. Congratulations on your new set up.. Many more to come for sure :)

Heh I already broke otwo of the bulbs Yesterday. I didn't quite know that they might blow up if the power was switched on for too long. I'll be on a hunt for new bulbs today I guess. (It'll may prove to be difficult because they only sell led bulbs here. I don't prefer leds for photography, because they flicker.)

I'm hoping that I could use this studio set-up for shooting pets, products and other things. Not sure about portraits though, as I'm bad with people.

Try and get a Godox AD200 instead.. Should do the trick for a longer run..

Ohh, that one looks nice. I'll have to think about it.

It's just that I already have a Nissin Di600, a radio transmitter and two receivers, and I recently ordered two Bowen brackets, but instead got three.

I'm thinking that if I bought myself 2 more cheap flashes and one receiver, I could replace the continuous light bulbs and use the softboxes with the flashes instead.

The modeling light in the AD200 however does seem quite compelling.

If I were to get myself and AD200, I might also have to get a Godox transmitter and a an additional receiver for the Di600.

I wonder which choice comes cheaper...

Ah!!

Yes, for the Godox you will have to get a transmitter and a receiver and sadly they aren't cheap.. I would suggest use what you have now and then once you start taking up assignments and earn some nice amount, that time you can upgrade..

You can ask @eveuncovered how she felt after upgrading too lights.. She has changed here entire self portrait game to another level..
