As I’ve already mentioned, I was amazed by how green and fresh Nuremberg feels, especially when you take into consideration that more than 500,000 people live there. I also appreciate the city symbiosis with the Pegnitz river, which forms several secondary arms within city limits. I walked by the the Pegnitz from the Wöhrder See to the other edge of the old town and I really enjoyed the stroll.
Jak už jsem tu zmínil, příjemně mně překvapilo, jak zeleně a zdravě Norimberk působí, zejména s ohledem na to, že ve městě žije více než půl milionu lidí. Líbí se mi také, jak město koexistuje s řeknou Pegnitz, která má na jeho území několik vedlejších ramen. Procházku podél řeky od Wöhrder See až na druhý konec starého města jsem si hodně užil.
Ther stroll started on one of many islands rendered by the Pegnitz’s secondary arms that reminded me strongly of Kampa island in Prague, my homtown. Except this one is way larger. And some parts of it are wetlands, probably on purpose.
Procházka začala na jednom z mnoha ostrovů, které vedlejší ramena řeky Pegnitz vytvořila. Hodně mi připomínal pražskou Kampu, ale je mnohem, mnohem větší. A je na něm několik mokřadů, pravděpodobně záměrně.

An Ubahn station at the riverbank. I wonder how Nuremberg deals with floods if they ever occur – the entire old town with most of the landmarks landmarks (except the castle, of course) must be in danger when the river rises for just a few metres.
Stanice Ubahnu na břehu řeky. Zajímalo by mě, jak se v Norimberku vypořádávají s povodněmi, pokud tu někdy bývají. Celé staré město s většinou památek (kromě hradu, samozřejmě) musí být ohroženo, když řeka stoupne jen o pár metrů.

I admire the sensible approach in combining old and new architecture. Like many other German cities, Nuremberg was heavily damaged during the Second World War and reconstructed in the decades after. I am not an architect, but I must say that with one or two exceptions, I felt like everything fitted into its place. Especially when it comes the riverside area. See yourself.
Obdivuju citlivý přístup při kombinaci staré a nové architektury. Stejně jako řada jiných německých měst, také Norimberk byl za druhé světové války hodně poničený a v následujících dekádách byl znovu opraven. Nejsem architekt, ale kromě jedné nebo dvou výjimek mi přišlo, že všechny stavby na své místo patří. Zejména kolem řeky. Podívejte se sami.
