The night that is behind us is a sad and completely silent night for my country Croatia 🇭🇷 in the light of millions of candles lit last night all over our beautiful city for our hero, for our Vukovar.❤️

Thirty-three years ago today, Vukovar fell in the Homeland War. The battle for it and the area around it was the hardest and longest battle in the 1991 Homeland War. It lasted 87 days.... The city, a hero in the true sense of the word, was terribly destroyed as a city during that time, but it was destroyed somewhere in its soul and heart, it was destroyed in such a way that a large number of Croatian defenders died in it during that time and civilian.
And that's why a million candles "Not to be forgotten"!
I have never been to Vukovar, my lack of strength has not allowed me to go to Vukovar all these years, but in the depths of my soul I feel the need to go there and to pay my respects to all fallen veterans and civilians in the silence of my heart.
Until that moment, I light a candle and think of everything.
I don't want to write here in any form about politics during the Homeland War, especially I don't want to write an iota of hatred because I don't even know it, I want to show love and deep respect for this city and all the fallen souls in it with this post
I want to single out one great man in this story of mine, and that is the journalist Siniša Glavašević who reported from Vukovar during the cruel battle for his city ..... With superhuman strength, he called for love, forgiveness, an end to all hatred and humanity with his reports. but he also reported on all the horrors that happened in Vukovar.
I need to quote his thoughts and words, so here are a few quotes from his "Tale of the City"
I am quoting Siniša Glavašević - journalist and reporter from Vukovar - "Tale of the City
" ........... Who will protect my city, my friends, who will bring Vukovar out of the darkness? There are no backs stronger than mine and yours, and therefore, if it is not difficult for you, if you still have a youthful whisper left in you, join ............ "
".......... I give up all searches for justice, truth, I give up trying to subordinate ideals to my own life, I give up everything that I considered necessary for some kind of good beginning or good end. I would probably give up on myself too, but I can't. Because, who will remain if we all renounce ourselves and run away into our fear, to whom will we leave the city? ..........."
........ You have to build again. First, look for your past, your roots, then your present, and then, if you have any strength left, invest it in the future. And don't be alone in the future ......
And the city, don't worry about it, it was inside you the whole time. Just hidden. So that the executioner doesn't find him. The city - that's you! ................
He was taken to the unknown two days after the fall of Vukovar, and exhumed from the mass grave at Ovčara in 1997.
In my thoughts with all those who lost their lives, with all the fallen veterans on whose lives we carry our love for the homeland and because of whose bravery we live a free life, today I am writing this post in their honor
And I love my country ❤️🇭🇷 boundlessly and unconditionally!
