Today I have something completely different for you, so let's go!
Model photography can be a very creative experience. I used my Nikon D750 in manual mode and had complete control over the photos. When working with a dark background and a model whose face is not visible but whose hat is the main focus, you can create powerful and expressive photos.
Although according to some interpretations and rules, eyes must be visible in portrait photos, I like to break the rules and have everything my way.
I chose a dark background that noted the tone and drama of the photo. It is good to use black or dark gray fabric or background, because in this way the model can stand out and create strong contrasts.
I set my beast, Nikon D750 in manual mode, manually adjusted exposure, experimented with ISO value (lower ISO for less noise), shutter speed and aperture (wide aperture for shallow depth of field).
I placed the lens in focus on the hat, leaving the rest of the model's body in a slight blur. You would have to agree that this created a mysterious atmosphere and drew your attention to the main element of the image.
Play of Light:
Lighting is key. I used soft lighting, with the model to the right of the natural light source, the window. This way I highlighted the contours of the hat, created dramatic shadows, and added dimension to the photo.
I like to take photos from different angles and poses of the model. The last photo was taken from a different angle than the others.
All of today's photos have my signature, I like to create expressive and artistic photos that tell a story and leave a strong impression. I always have in mind to show my style and personal vision.
Black-and-white Post-processing: After taking photos, I processed the images in black-and-white technique in Photoshop. I played with contrast and lighting - Photoshop Action/Black&White3
