Day 1 and 2 Skiing in French Alps

in Photography Lovers2 years ago (edited)

Ultimately our France trip was a mountain ski trip and this is a post where im bringing you some shots from there and talk about how it went. I didn't carry my camera up on the mountain for obvious reasons and had to take photos with a phone. I really should have used a better aspect ratio because the photos are too wide.
The first two days were characterized by crazy weather. We didn't see almost anything because heavy snowfall was present at all times but it was great to be on the mountain again!

Day 1

This was our visibility, no surrounding landscapes to be seen sadly.

This is me. As you see I also have a GoPro mounted on my chest but I had trouble with battery getting empty really fast due to the cold. I still ended up with a 40 min movie after the trip.

One of my friends was mountain skiing for the first time and the first day was hard on him. He fell down countless times and the hardest part for him was to get up over and over again.

The ski resort we were in was named Les 3 Valles. Meaning three valleys. It's the largest ski resort of Europe and one of the larges if not the largest in the world. In total, there are about 180 kilometers of downhill ski trails, a ridiculous amount. On the first day, we stick to the valley of Meribel where we also lived.

Here you can see just a bit of the view.

On the mountain, you have many restaurants and pubs where you can grab some food and have drinks.

Mountain tops were closed due to severe weather this day. We went up halfway on a mountain and it was crazy. Insane wind, no visibility, about 20m and everything was white. There were no trees and no reference points. The hardest thing for me was that I didn't know how much is my speed at any given times and that's why I crashed too. Both my skis flew off 😅. Have it on a GoPro video. I don't have any photos of this part of the mountain. You wouldn't have seen anything anyway, photo would have been just white.

Day 2

It was time to get on the mountain again. Crazy amount of snow had fallen down during the past day and night and was still falling. This is a view from our accommodation window, taken with a camera.
Muscles were also so painful after the first day, especially the legs. But that has never prevented us from skiing, this is just a part of the game.

Every day on the mountain we skied different trails and mountainsides.

Even saw a glimpse of sunshine on the second day. The sunshine was so warm even though the temperatures were below zero.

The photos above are taken on a higher altitude where no trees grow. On lower altitudes, there were pine trees and these looked so beautiful. Also, the lighting was great at this particular time. Just check out the photos below.

We spent 4 days mountain skiing and I will do the post about day 3 and 4 as well. On day 3 the weather got fully clear and for the first time we could see the whole alpine landscape around us. It was incredible! Stay tuned.

WoW! Such incredible conditions for this time of year. Looks like you had an amazing time despite the tough conditions and all the muscle aches. Nothing a few pints can't handle at the end of a good day of skiing!

Pints were going during and after skiing. Oh yeah, can't forget the Jagermeister shots 😅

My days of drinking are well behind me. I actually had 2 drinks last Wednesday at an NFT party and I was basically useless all of Thursday. Now after I ski, a bit of CBD lotion does a world of good and that's about it!

It is a beautiful area, the trees and environment create a mythical atmosphere. It is very difficult to survive in this environment. Very lovingly photographed

Thank you! There sure is not an easy way to survive living over the tree line altitude but other than that there is many villages in the mountains in the tree level.

Fuck! Nice pics. The alps have always given me respect, I've never been to one but I'm not dying to be either haha. I feel an avalanche coming my way at any moment, I admire your calmness to be there. Cheers!

Thanks! Avalanches are a real danger yes. The danger was 3/4 on the first two days and 4/5 in the third day so a very high risk. We didnt ski any off trail for this reason. Fortunately didnt get to experience any avalanche but we saw a little one falling down a cliff.

God, what luck! I hope you never have to experience one, I've seen many videos about avalanches, and they are literal tsunamis of snow. I recently saw a skier being dug out alive, it was crazy, I think I'm terrified of snow hahaha.

By the way 3 people died in an avalanche a week prior we went there and a week ago from now one died. Its not a rare event when something fatal happens sadly

Fantastic! That is called living life to the fullest. White is beautiful. I love the scene from the window the mountain that was all white and the activities so fun..wonderful.

Skiing is really living! Sure got to see some amazing winter weathers in the mountains. Now im fine with spring coming haha 😀

We skied 7 days in the French Alps. Your blog makes me want to go there again for the next year. :D

I am probably going somewhere next year again too. Dont know where exactly.

We stayed in the same town but will try other ski resorts. hehe.
