Faial is a smaller town in the northern side of Madeira island and we visited this places during our travels because there was a couple of points of interest I wanted to check out.
Here is a shot overviewing some of the town area. Look at the waves, quite a rough water it was that day but really nice and blue.
Supposedly there was a fortress of Faial which has some cannons out in the open. Had to drive uphill a bit on the narrow roads. When we arrived, the gate was closed and we couldnt get inside. It looks like it is closed permanently and no one seems to maintain the area anymore. Through the gate I was able to get a couple of pictures and see the cannons.
In Failar, there is also a cool viewpoint named Guindaste. I thought there was a cliff overlooking the ocean and coast but what I didn't know was that they have built a glass platform over the edge of the cliff so you can stare straight into the rushing water below. This was really cool to see.
I don't know who that lady is. She just jumped on my photo when I took it. Well...
Looking down from the platform you have this view.
About 100 meters away, there is another thin cliff you can go and walk to but this has no fences, and need to be really careful because you definitely don't want to fall down into the ocean in this particular place.
The water below.
Faial was a cool little place with interesting locations to see. I bet there is more stuff to find but we had to get going and couldn't explore any further at this time. If you visit Madeira then I would definitely recommend this place on the northern coast!
Don't forget to participate in my monthly weather guessing game here and you might win 10 HIVE. The game is open until the 17th of April.
The island is very beautiful and there is a panoramic shot. The water there is quite stable. The glass platform is also very beautiful. You can go there and take beautiful photos.
A great place to have some photos taken. Beautiful place indeed!
What a lovely place, I've had Madeira on my list of places to visit, after seeing these shots, it's certainly moved up the list. Excellent work.
When you visit, this place is sure worth to add in your itinerary. Be sure to rent a car tho. Public transport is not a great option.
I know Madeira is a little paradise and your photos confirm that. Lovely shots.
Thank you! It definitely feels like a paradise in some locations in Madeira.
These are some fantastic shots!
Thank you!
