I have driven past the Krýsuvíkurkirkja countless times but never gone close. When I traveled to Iceland the most recent time I decided that I will not leave it unwatched again. I'm glad I didn't because I wouldn't have taken pictures there otherwise. The curch is nice and the surrounding nature is extremely scenic. Since it was my second and final day in Iceland at the time, I was really fortunate to get the day with clear skies and sunshine.
Krýsuvíkurkirkja was built in 1857 and at some point, it was also used as a residence. It was repaired in 1964 and handed over to the Icelandic national museum. The last person that was buried there next to the church was in 1971.
The door was locked and I was unable to go inside. I tried to see what I can through the window.
A couple of additional photos that I took of the surroundings.
I had taken some food with me and had a small picnic there. I loved to sit and enjoy the calmness of this place.

Muy buenas fotos, el lugar está súper lindo
Thank you!
Wow what a beautiful church and you are right the surrounding area is so scenic, a great place to enjoy lunch!
Such a beautiful place yeah. I was fortunate with the weather too.
That''s a weird but a interesting location for a church!!
Many churches in Iceland are in the middle of nowhere, in a random valley, or on a random field, pretty cool.
So scenic and isolated. My brain is so curious because of not having to go inside😂. Let's go there next time and break that window 😂😂😂.
Thanks for sharing, those are great photos.
Got to see a bit from the window.
I tend to try not start breaking stuff 😅
It looks like an oasis in the middle of the desert, it's a shame it was closed
Pretty much yeah. Well, at least I got to see inside from the window.
