In this post, I have content from several different locations from Madeira Island that I won't be doing a separate post on. The first photos you see are from a region called Calheta on the southern coast of the island. It's a small beachfront/cliffside settlement full of restaurants and gift shops. We visited this place to get some food.
On the next day, we drove to the northern side of the island to find the trail I wanted to check out. It's a unique trail where part of the path is built on a side of the cliff, a wooden structure that looks quite shady. The name is Sao Jorge Trail. In the start od the trail, there is a cool rocky beach.
Look at this cacti tree, those look crazy.
On this trail, you can also see some old ruins. I wasn't able to get a good (people-free)shot from the archway because there was always someone roaming about.
We walked maybe half of a kilometer forward to find a block and a sign that said danger, rock fall. Well great.
This is not there to block the access entirely, you can walk past it but is it a good idea? The chances of getting hit by a rock or boulder are quite slim but is it worth the risk?? We stood there for about 10 minutes, deciding if we should still go because the cliff trail is really unique.
Ultimately we decided not to go. Rockfall is a risk beyond our control. I felt quite shit about this decision but it was not worth it to put our lives on the line.
This is a picture I took past the sign. It really looks like there might be rocks falling on the trail regularly.
If you want to see the pictures of what the cliffside wooden structure trail looks like then google Sao Jorge cliff trail. You should find the picture. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see it. We just walked back.
Finally, here is just a couple of photos from the northern coast I have taken in some random place. I'm not entirely sure where exactly are these taken.
Don't forget to participate in my monthly weather guessing game here and you might win 10 HIVE. The game is open until the 17th of April.

I went through after that sign. Unfortunately at some point I had to go down with an old rope. Looking at the height and my body weight, it was not smart to do. So we returned :(
