We visited the other day Fort Goraza, a fortification near Kotor in Montenegro. It was built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire between 1884–86 on top of an earlier structure. The fort was used by the Austrians during the First World War in artillery duels against the Montenegrin army. The Montenegrins were unable to destroy it and were pushed out of artillery range by an Austrian offensive. It was used as a depot by the Yugoslav Army until early 1990s. It was subsequently abandoned and can be visited by the public. The fort is situated in a very attractive place with an amazing view. It was used on several occasions as a film location.

Honestly I wish we had such castles and fortress's here in South Africa but our country is far too young for that.. We have one castle in Cape Town I should visit that sometime!
I always find it strange that they abandoned these places after being used for so many years... What changed hey??like it can still be used can't it?
Cool write up, I love shit like this!!
There are many of these military installations around here, and generally these are not really nice structures. I'm not particularly interested in them, it's just these forts are usually on quite interesting places with amazing views.I find the old monasteries and churches much more interesting, some of them are really old.
I have to be honest today, seeing some of the pictures of the fort you visited was amazing and incredible.
A very beautiful shot to look at
