Exploring the area south of Kopenhagen

The Pyramid at Stevns Klint

For the past weeks I have been traveling a bit and here is one of the stops I planned for some light painting. With a conference in Kopenhagen, I searched for some interesting spots to stop before arriving. Then I found this fascinating structure. Then of course it was clear to keep it simplistic and in white and red, as these are the national colors of the flag of Denmark. So here it is.

In den letzten Wochen war ich viel unterwegs und hier zeig ich euch einen der geplanten Stopps für mein Light Painting. Da ich eine Konferenz in Kopenhagen besuchte, suchte ich nach interessanten Orten für einen Zwischenstopp. Dabei stieß ich auf diese faszinierende Struktur. Natürlich war es klar, es schlicht und in Weiß und Rot zu halten, da dies die Nationalfarben der dänischen Flagge sind. Hier ist sie also.

When entering the parking lot and walking down to the Pyramid, this is the first impression of what it looks like today.

If you look closer, you see the Baltic Sea is right behind through the gap, accessible super easy. You get to see the cliffs and when I arrived during sunset it was a wonderful play of colors.

Wenn man den Parkplatz betritt und zur Pyramide hinuntergeht, ist dies der erste Eindruck davon, wie sie heute aussieht.

Bei genauerem Hinsehen erkennt man die Ostsee direkt dahinter, durch die Lücke hindurch, ganz einfach zu erreichen. Man sieht die Klippen, und als ich bei Sonnenuntergang ankam, bot sich mir ein wunderschönes Farbenspiel.

As one of the signs tells you this structure was built in 1968 and it's been shaped above a huge pile of limestone that was created by the conveyor belts transporting the crushed material up to the top. This created a huge limestone pile that allowed the limestone to dry out for weeks and months. The end product ended in the fields of Denmark.

The Limestone production ended in 1978. Since that was such an interesting structure, it ignited some new concepts of use such as concerts and events for performances and all sorts of creative happenings.

Die Pyramide wurde 1968 erbaut als Teil einer Kalsteinförderanlage. Die Transportbänder waren aussen angebracht und transportierten wohl den zerkleinerten Kalkstein bis nach oben kreierten so einen riesen Haufen Kalkstein, der dann dort für Wochen und Monate getrocknet wurde. Das Endprodukt landete auf den Feldern Dänemarks.

Die Kalksteinproduktion endete 1978. Da es sich um ein so interessantes Bauwerk handelte, entstanden neue Nutzungsmöglichkeiten wie Konzerte, Aufführungen und kreative Veranstaltungen aller Art.

When I arrived here I had to give a good walkaround to see what I would do with it after dark. Looking for some cool angles and then considering the stars to see through the structure. I was super curious about what would come of it in a light painting.

Als ich hier ankam, musste ich einen gründlichen Rundgang machen, um zu sehen, was ich nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit damit machen würde. Ich suchte nach coolen Winkeln und berücksichtigte dann die Sterne, um durch die Struktur hindurchzusehen. Ich war super gespannt, wie die Struktur dann später als Light Painting wirken würde.

When you step in you get to realize the actual size of that thing. Being 24m tall it quickly tells you how tiny you are.

Wenn Ihr mal rein geht, wird einem schnell die wahre Größe dieses Dings bewusst. Mit einer Höhe von 24 m wird Ihnen schnell klar, wie klein man doch ist.

Light Painting session

As always I started with the simple lighting no fancy colors just lighting it up and seeing some stars. So I used F2.8 on my 12mm Laowa with some exposure times like 20-30 seconds.

Wie immer begann ich mit einfacher Beleuchtung, ohne ausgefallene Farben, einfach nur beleuchten und ein paar Sterne sehen. Also verwendete ich F2.8 auf meinem 12-mm-Laowa mit Belichtungszeiten von 20–30 Sekunden.

Time for some colors

Just using my Headlamp for the red and a simple flashlight for the white. BAM!

Ich nahm einfach meine Stirnlampe für das Rot und eine einfache Taschenlampe für das Weiß. BÄM!

As a Grand Finale - at least one Camera Rotation.

How cool did this go? At first, I really had a good set up and it all aligned relatively well. Then I struggled a bit. Here you get to see what worked more or less.

In the lower half of the second image yousee I kind of list the sharpness during the exposure. Could have been the wind that started picking up.

Wie cool war das denn? Anfangs hatte ich ein wirklich gutes Setup und alles passte relativ gut zusammen. Dann hatte ich etwas Mühe. Hier seht ihr, was mehr oder weniger gut funktioniert hat.

Ich fand ziemlich cool. Im unteren Bereich ist mir leider irgendwie die Schärfe abhandengekommen. Könnte am Wind gelegen haben.

EXPLAINED

Camera Rotation is what?

As I have shared with you in many of my posts about Camera Rotation. Yes, it is just what the name suggests. The camera is being rotated during the exposure, sometimes in steps sometimes in a continuous motion while doing so I also light up the scene.

Prinzip Kamera Rotation Light Painting?

Wie in einigen meiner Posts beschrieben ist Kamera Rotations Fotografie genau was der Name schon meint. Die Kamera wird einfach während der Belichtung gedreht und dabei wird das Subjekt ausgeleuchtet.
