Exploring Torre del Comte de Fígols
During my last visit to Barcelona I met up with Xiao Yang and we both went on a nightly adventure as you would expect of the both of us. Xiao Yang is an amazing artist. When I told her I would come to Spain we checked if we could explore some locations together.
Here is the first one. Torre del Comte de Fígols is located about an hour and a half outside of Barcelona.
Here I will share the Light Painting I got that night but also some amazing graffiti art we have seen leading up to the rooftop of the building. So many great graffitis to enjoy.
Bei meinem letzten Besuch in Barcelona traf ich mich mit Xiao Yang für ein nächtliches Abenteuer, wie Ihr es von uns wohl erwarten würden. Als ich ihr erzählte, dass ich nach Spanien kommen würde, checkten wir was wir so zusammen machen könnten. Hier mal ein paar Bilder unsers ersten Abenteuers. Torre del Comte de Fígols liegt etwa anderthalb Stunden außerhalb von Barcelona.
Hier zeig ich euch Light Paintings und natürlich auch einige coole Graffitis die wir gefunden haben. Was man alles so findet auf dem Weg zum Dach des Gebäudes. So viele, so coole Graffitis.
The featured shot was taken on th roof of the building, me lighting my legs while walking through the scene and Xiao Yang was giving me the red light. The rest of the light was also placed by me.
Das Light Painting wurde ganz oben auf dem Dach des Gebäudes aufgenommen. Ich hab als erstes meine Beine angeleuchtet, während ich durch die Szene ging, und Xiao Yang hat das rote Licht hinterm tower ausgeleuchtet. Den Rest des Lichts wurde von mir platziert.

What were the settings?
What you see is a featured Light Painting is a single 192 second exposure time photograph. The camera was always set to ISO 100 and the Lens to F8.
Important to notice here is more the way I lit the walls. What you need to do to get the nice texture is to light it up from a low angle not directly from the camera position!
Was Ihr als Cover Light Painting seht ist eine einzige Aufnahme mit 192 Sekunden Belichtungszeit. Die Kamera war auf ISO 100 und das Objektiv auf F8.
Wichtig ist hier eher die Art und Weise, wie ich die Wände ausgeleuchtet habe. Damit die Textur der Wände gut rauskommt ist es wichtig die Wand aus einem sehr engen Winkel auszuleuchten, nicht direkt aus der Kameraposition!
This was the first attempt to understand the situation and light conditions, but I was not really taking much care of the texture of the walls.
But let us have a look at how we got there:
Dies war der erste Versuch, die Situation und die Lichtverhältnisse zu verstehen, aber ich habe mich nicht wirklich um die Textur der Mauern gekümmert.
Aber schauen wir uns mal an, wie wir dahin gekommen sind:
So that was the first and most important task. Find out how to get the best texture on the walls and towers.
Das war also die erste und wichtigste Aufgabe. Finden heraus, wie man ambesten ordentlich beste Textur an die Wände und Türme bekommt.
Recognize the difference from the one before? Just applying the light from a different angle changes the impression dramatically.
Seht Ihr den Unterschied zum vorherigen Bild? Allein das Aufbringen des Lichts aus einem anderen Winkel verändert den Eindruck dramatisch.
Here is the less perfected first attempt of the shot. I also promise I did not draw the penis to the wall. But I did not intended to hide it. I admit that!
Get to the Location
When we parked the car near the location we had to walk a bit down the hill through some bushes. No fences no difficulties to get there. I wasnt super impressed of the building at first.
Als wir das Auto in der Nähe der Location geparkt hatten, mussten wir ein Stück den Hügel hinunter durch einige Büsche laufen. Keine Zäune, keine Schwierigkeiten, dorthin zu gelangen. Als Ich dann das Gebäude von außen sah war ich erst nicht super beeindruckt.

When we got into the building I started taking soooo many shots to preserve some cool ones to remember it. One photo after another. Let us have a look at some here. So grab a ticket, line up and enjoy the exhibition here.
Als wir ins Gebäude kamen, fing ich an, soooo viele Bilde von den Graffities zu machen. Ein Foto nach dem anderen. Jetzt gibts dann mal ein paar von den coolsten. So schön anstellen und dann geniesst die "Ausstellung"
Going from room to room we saw one cool graffiti after another.
Some of them are very artistic and sophisticated. I was impressed with their display of skill and creative approach to them.
Some are more funny and colorful.
Looking at these artworks I would really find out who did these. So I can only tell that I created the Light Paintings. In that context, the next graffiti was really speaking to me. The anglers monster ... luring me in with its light.
Someone was scared outside the window.
Some of these are really asking to be light painted but for that, the night was way too short. So maybe next time.
As you see the rooms were mostly empty and apart from the cool graffities not that interesting. These 3 are from the same room. The following you see a bit on the right wall.
When walking from room to room I found the following in a side door of a tunnel. Asking for my attention. Imagine some Light Painting a figure into her hands
Some graffiti made you think. What was the intent of this one? Up to you to find your meaning!
Sometimes it is the small things on the side that caught my attention. This oven is well worth the stop.
Some were more on the simple end but colors really popped in the night.
I guess time to go now it's way past midnight and we need to get back to Barcelona. In that context the following graffiti was perfect to catch my attention.

It was pretty cool on the roof and in the main hall, other rooms were not as exciting. Yet we had so many things we could have done. So many ideas so littletime.
