Beauty shots with a creative makeup

I'm exploring lighting + background setup and practicing makeup at the same time. If you have done a nice makeup look, it would be kinda a waste not to take shots the best way possible lol.

Anyway about the makeup, I was using the same Colourpop Aurora Struck eyeshadow palette that I used in this Teal makeup look. This palette really has a lot of potential combinations and this time I'm focusing on the purplish tones.

I didn't have any look in mind but I was thinking of something a bit dark vibe but this turned out to look like an ethereal or even alienish vibe haha. The highlights of this eyeshadow is insane. You can see how reflective they are.

This gave me an opportunity to explore capturing the glitters and shimmers on camera better.

I had a light set up behind me on my left and one big light with a softbox + honeycomb but on a very dim brightness. In my observation a light without a diffuser and it hits the glitters from somewhere else other than the front, it brings out those shimmers a lot more. That's what I did here. I couldn't really find information on the internet about that but I think it also said there that a higher aperture number will make the glitters twinkle or something like that. I didn't want to do that since I like the blurry background. :P

It turned out nicely though. The light behind me might have been too harsh so I'll try it from another direction next time. I also think I might have shot the photo too dim for a beauty shot but I guess I just have to balance them out to make it a "pro" beauty shot and a creative one.

The fabric in the background is a satin-looking one but more reflective. I thought it would be brown but it looked more golden when hit by the light which looks nice on my skin tone as well so that's a nice discovery for me. I don't know what the fabric is called exactly but it's not a satin, just kinda looks like it.

The colors might also have been too warm for the eye look lol but it honestly gives me almost a film vibe this way. Like in the movie Fifth Element. :P

This is a different kind of makeup. You look beautiful.

Haha yeah I'm liking these kinds of makeup. Thank you!

Love the quality of the pics Vy and great lighting! What lens have you been using?

Yaaay thanks Ben! I’m using Fuji 50mm f/1.0 and it’s really good and sharp even if you have it for 1.0 :D

That's so pretty, I can see a butterfly in those glittery eyeshadow in your whole face. I mean, all I can see with this style is a wicked fairy, the effect of the glitters. Omg, with the right costume, it'll complete the look 😻😻❤️

Yeah a butterfly too! I also thought that one and fairy wings as well. True haha and the right hair and accessories :D

Which lipstick are you using! it looks so bright cherry red and beautiful😁

Girlcult lip gloss in shade J809. It's so nice haha it's more like a dark chocolate on me. It is indeed beautiful!

I thought it's like red cherry 😂 I found it on Shoppee, gonna add that to my Christmas wish list 😁. Have you ever tried Rhode? I wanted to check out their lipgloss but not sure if it's worth it.

You found resellers there? Girlcult is quite hard to find and I just order from resellers but found that they have high markups huhu. I think one lip gloss should only be around $10 but some can go as high as $20 that’s twice the original price. 😓 hope you find a good shop there or better if it’s the flagship store.

I’ve heard good things about the Rhode lip balm or what you call it haha. They said it’s soooo good it’s better than Aquaphor (the one I use right now that I swear is so good but apparently something’s better). Rhode’s not my style tho and I have other similar makeups to use instead. But yeah I think that one’s worth it if that’s your thing :D

the lips are quite a lot reflective too!

i find it curious to see the makeup on the nose, never really seen in around like that

Yeah the lips are very glossy. Sometimes they put blush on the nose as well to bring back some colors although subtle so it's not really a new concept.. but for this color and dark yeah it's very obvious so it gives a whole different vibe :D
