Capturing glitters on camera better

Aside from applying makeup, I really like shooting products like this. I like shooting videos and photos but I don't really like working with people so what's the best subject for that? Things. And pets lol.

I've been experimenting on the lighting since as you know, it's the most important part of photography cos without light, you basically cannot make photos. :P Recently, I've learned that in order to have a sharper shadows, you need to have a direct light - that means without a diffuser.

I thought that was obvious already but alas it's a detail that I missed. I was shooting stuff and wondering why the glitters don't shine that much but that is because I was using a big ass diffuser which softens the highlights and shadows. Really perfect if you want to have a filter-like skin on camera.

With that said, this eyeshadow palette was shot with a Godox video light and without a diffuser.

This eyeshadow palette is from Girlcult which I have posted about recently as well. Their packaging is so unique and full of details that I was enjoying my macro shots haha.

As you can see, the glitters are shining brightly and nicely. Especially when it's not focused, the bokeh was so nice. With a diffuser, all these details are gonna get "flattened" in a way that it doesn't look dramatic. It's so cool and I loved shooting this. I didn't know I would love shooting glitters. :D

Now talking about the product, the formula of this eyeshadow is so nice. I can say it feels quite similar to another Chinese brand Flower Knows eyeshadow formula... it's quite "creamy" and it glides so nice on your skin. Of course the shimmers and glitters are so glittery as well. Something I really appreciate in Chinese makeup brands since Western brands tend to like mattes more.

I haven't tried it yet so I couldn't say about the longevity but it looks promising.

The way the glitters shift from pink-red to green is just astonishing.

Anyway, I'm gonna experiment more on the lights to shoot glitters better. :P I only used one source of light this time but maybe having multiples is better, I just don't know where to place them yet. :D

This is a beautiful palette! And I love that you take photos like this for fun 😊 It would have never occurred to me to do such 'a project' at home 😉

You should at some point haha. Especially makeup products that have glitters and shine, they look so nice on camera. :D

I like the most the red one (not the shining one)!
